Alright guys, Heres the story we have a 69 #'s Matching R/T car. The engine is in the shop as we speak and we will be assembling it over christmas vacation. We want to switch over to an electronic ignition, but were having a problem because it is #'s matching. FBO has a stock looking ignition system. But we have also been looking into MSD. However, we don't know if the FBO system is good enough and reliable. Is the MSD system worth the money and is it worth changing to a non stock look. The engine will be completely stock looking with the exception of headers and exhaust. The engine combo is the following. Bored .030 over. Diamond pistons with a zero decked block, and gapless moly rings for a true 9.5 to 1 compression. It will have a comp cams xtreme high lift series cam with .525 of lift and a duration of 237. The heads are 906 open chamber heads with 1.88 and 2.14 manley ss valves the combustion chambers have been polished and de shrouded for the larger valaves, and the heads have been mildly ported and polished. The Real question is this: Do  we need the multi spark at idling with the msd system or will the fbo system be enough. Your valued opinions are greatly appreciated

We installed an MSD6A on my buddies 408 smallblock stroker and it runs much better, cleaner idle and a nice snappy throttle response. The old MP chrome box just didn't work as well. He's running the same grind as you, but the smallblock version (xe275hl) and is very pleased with the improved performance. Everything i've swapped an msd unit onto has show improvement, especially with hotter cams which can load up at low speeds and foul plugs.

Ps. If you're worried about maintaining the stock look...mount the box under the dash and run the wires through the firewall.

I would not use the FBO system , I tried 4-5 systems up here & had problems with all of them , personally I feel there is virtually marginal at best gains with the MSD , if the Mopar electronic system is used with good wires & plugs & a high output coil the engine will run as well , the MSD Only multi sparks up to 3000 RPM so it May help starting & low RPM operation but not above 3000 rpm

With the mp distributer an system can we mechanically degree the distributer at low and high rpm with the vacum advance attached, or should we remove the vaccum. Also what size coil should we use. Thanks again

the new MP dist have an adjustment to shorten the mechanical  advance curve & the vacuum can be adjusted also by inserting an allen wrench into the vaccum nipple on the vacuum pot , counterclockwise shortens the curve
I would use a 60k v + output coil

I have the FBO unit on my car and have yet to have a problem.   Actually the only issue I had was that the distrbutor Don curved for me does not have enough initial advance in it and that is mostly my fault from bad info I was given on my rebuild.   Versus the stock orange box there was a very noticeable difference with the idle quality, enough so that I had to re tune the 650 Mighty Demon.

I don't know what problems you have had, but Don at FBO has been extremely helpful to me and my ride.

Just my opinion....
