big block oil slinger

what do u guys think is my friend thinks that the oil slinger thats in front of the timing chain absolutly needed for the engine or it will not last long. or is it optional?

have heard guys running with out one ! no probs !!  think its more for keeping the oil away from the crankshaft oil seal ,
  i await to be corrected though  :slap: :lol: :popcrn:

Remember this, the factory didn't put ANYTHING on a ANY production car that didn't have to be there for a good reason....Also, you remove it and something goes wrong, how you gonna know it wasn't realated to that slinger? I've heard of people running enignes without it and they are fine, but I prefer to error oon the side of caution...

yeah well, but is frequently adviced tu put coils vertical and far away as posible of the heat... BB have it horizontal and mounted on engine LOL

thank u  all who responded for this i was talkin with my friend and we were talking about the oil slinger and i said my engine which was never was rebuilt  never had the slinger so i never put one in when i rebuilt it and he said i was dumb and my engine wasnt going 2 last long if i didnt install it, i told him the only main reason for the slinger was 2 keep less stress on the seal thats about it atleast what i thought.
