Universal Joints?

Well, I know there aren't but so many u-joints out there, but I'm wondering which might be my best bet? I'd like to get a replacement set (both) for my driveshaft on my third gen. I might also be replacing the slip yoke, mines got some rust on it now since the weather has apparently gotten to it, though it appears to be just some surface rust, and could probably taken off with some emery cloth, just have not made up my mind. This is what all I have in mind, but not set in stone though.
New slip yoke (which one?)
New axle yoke (which one?), I'm running the 8 3/4 with 489 case
Run a U-Joint girdle
And of course, new U-Joints, going to be greaseable, but for which ones....

I was looking at Mancini's selection, quite a few different things available.... Which would be better, 1350, 7260, or 7290? So, what would you all suggest? Want be behind anything major, but will be a big block. Probably around 500 hp I guess.

FOr u-joints, I was going to recommend a good low cost option is the US made u-joints NAPA carries till you said maybe 500hp. Don't know if they could handle that for sure. I do know they are working great on my 69 mustang with a big block 390 which is putting out around 400hp.

As for cleaning up rusted parts vs buying new, I debated replacing the drive shaft/yoke on the mustang so took it in to the shop to have it checked out. It checked out fine so they tumble cleaned it to remove rust then sprayed it with rustproof coating and spin-balanced it for $105. They were the ones that told me the US made u-joints from NAPA are fine for my 400hp mustang.

yes, I'm not sure what the Napa ones will handle either. Though it's not like I will be putting the hammer down all the time, will be a street car, when I do put the hammer down on it, I hope that it will stand up to the strain. I am still going to be running a bit of a rear suspension set up, so it will probably hook up, putting more strain on the u-joints and such..... I'm still debating if it will be worth while to run the bolt on drive shaft loop that Mancini carries, but I'm thinking at this point, probably not....

I guess it really depends on how much hp and how hard you plan on pressing your motor. I have a 390 in my mustang that is running about 400hp with the upgrades I've done. The u-joints have held up just fine for me running thru a C6 tranny. Course I run 275 street tires though so more prone to burn rubber than hook on my setup which is fine for me since it is just a power cruiser and not intended for drag stuff. There is something fun about being able to burn rubber any time wet or dry (insert tool time grunt here).

Regarding the safety strap... for street, I really don't think it is that big of a deal. For track, it is a must. You can get generic ones pretty cheap so that would be a low cost option of you are concerned.

if it were me & as you changing yokes also , would  7290  witch are grease able ,  spicer joints are availible from mancini  ,  going with the 1350 joint  would be better although they dont have greese niples ,  but are greaseabe ones really needed ?? :slap:  plenty of OEM driveshafts , from other car makers around the world  :shruggy:
