I agree words other than swear words can harm people just as much. But I just don't want my 2 year old walking around repeating what they are saying in that movie.

JimShine

I don't blame you. I wouldn't let a 2 year old see it. Leave the show for them. After 8 I would be cool though, but in the end, it is up to each individual parent to decide.

Well he already watched the movie at the drive in this summer. But then again he was more facinated with dad's Charger in the drive in, than he was with the movie. So I don't think it hurt him any.

I was talking to my wife about the movie and I came to the conclusion that only four of the main characters were anything like they were in the TV show. The General, Enos, Cooter and believe it or not, Daisy. Despite all the whining about casting her in that role I think Jessica Simpson captured Daisy's personality better than any other cast member captured theirs, other than the General. She was sweet and innocent yet sexy and tough when she needed to be. Bo and Luke were nothing like the TV show characters and neither were Boss Hogg, Uncle Jesse and Rosco. Rosco and Hogg were cocky, stoic and mean and Uncle Jesse was just a dirty old pot head. Johnny Knoxville does a great Johnny Knoxville and the other guy was just an angry, bumbling psycho with a car fetish. It was just a weird experience overall and I felt like I needed a shower after watching it. But hey, I got to see lots of Charger and that was cool. I really didn't like seeing them get mangled though. After it's all said and done I think we could have survived just fine without a Dukes of Hazzard movie. :-\

I have to agree.  I watched this movie last night, and while I absolutely loved the General and the stunts for it, I really didn't like the movie overall.  I remember Boss being more of a wannabe bad guy, but to dim to actually get it done.  Roscoe was a scatterbrain with a stutter, not some bar bouncer mean guy.  Uncle Jessie was the moral compass of the show, not dope smoking dirty joke tellin' old man.  I don't remember Luke as a sex crazed man whore in the original, nor do I remember Bo being a psycho.

Now, I wasn't expecting this movie to be just like the original, and I didn't expect it to be super clean, but I was really surprised how different it was.  The only things this movie has in common with the original are the car and the names of the characters.  Unfortunately, the profanity was wholly gratuitous and seemed to be there just to try and make the movie "hip" or something.  I really felt dissappointed that it couldn't be a family movie.

" I don't remember Luke as a sex crazed man whore in the original"

I think that is one of the very few original items that carried over to the movie. In the early episodes we see that as being part of Luke's character. He meets an old ex in "Daisy's Song" working as a prostitue. He asks her what she is doing there and she says "Compared to you, this is a step up in the world". In "Luke's Love Story" we see Luke falling in love and actually tells this woman he wants her to be faithful, but he needs the ability to be able to see other women on the side. I also see it as maybe a slight reflection of Tom Wopat, who lived much like a rock star back in the day. There is even a little chops busting in one of the show DVD's commentaries about this when Cathy asks him how many kids he has now with a laugh.

I still liked it alot, the GL with hemi screaming coming onto the race track with a dozen state troopers in pursuit!   gave me goosebumps!

Still would not let my kids see it. At least you can rent or buy DVD's of the entire original series which I love to watch with my 8 & 10 year olds, and you don't have to worry about F'bombs and bouncing funbags. It could of been much worse.   (was pretty disappointed with Roscoe being meanass   instead of a bumbling cop you like.)

General_01

I watched the movie with my 8 and 10 year old girls. Took them to the theater and watched it last night too. The reason I let them watch it is because they have heard dirty words. They also know that they are not to use dirty words. My youngest ones favorite word from the movie is "Boomshakalaka". :icon_smile_big:

Like alot of movies and Im pretty sure this one as well, the studios have to fight for the ratings.
And by fight I mean try to get a PG-13 rating.

The PG rating movie ticket wise is the kiss of death, unless of course you are targeting kids directly.

PG-13 is the place you want to be, get alot of kids and the adults. Plus alot of adults will skip the "bad" parts so the kids can watch.

R is also a bad rating.... but generally better than PG.

Anyway what shoulda been and prolly was at one point a PG rated movie, had stuff added to get the PG-13 rating.

I havent seen talk of this specifically about DOH. However its common practice for alot of movies.

Blame the almighty dollar on this one.

Im going to add to this.
If you watch the first episodes, DOH was a 9pm time slot show. It was an adult drama and not a family show at all. Later on in the series the show starts to take the shape that everybody came to know.

Roscoe was not a bumbling idiot, and was mean.  Boss hog was a  strong character and not the rolly polly wuss.

In one of the first episodes Daisy, bo and luke are in the bar and Daisy says to Bo " that man wants to take me to the no tell motel" Bo replys "if you wherent my cousin.......".   Or something very close to that.

2Gunz is right, but I think the biggest dissapointment to me was Undle Jesse. Uncle Jesse was the best character in the series. He is what brought it back to somewhat of a reality. No matter what crazy thing they were doing, there was Jesse to set them straight. I think Denver Pyle wuold be rolling over in his grave if he knew what the writers did to his character. The theatrical version is pretty close to the original five episodes in feeling, except for the Psycotic Bo and the "Man Whore" Luke. I find this movie entertaining, but I look at it as a different entity with the same character names and a beautiful Charger. The best part of the movie is my current avatar! That is a great looking car!

Just my Two cents

I got my copy yesterday for $13.99 and I fell cheated. The general is in it a fair amount which is good because after 15minutes I muted it and just turned the sound on when a chase was going on. Good thing I bought Fight Club and the Transporter so it wasn't a wasted trip.

You just can't stop thinking about that can you? They're both out of work right now, I'm sure you could arrange something with their agents for less than $10k. Maybe put it on Pay Per View.

I think more money would be made from people paying NOT to watch it. I'll send you 20 bucks today if you can guarantee that my eyes will never be so brutally punished. Oh god make it stop. :icon_smile_dead:

ok i didnt get a chance to see it in the theater, so last night i rented it. remember im 32, never married (prolly soon tho) with no kids. and I LOVED IT!  granted it didnt have the charm of the origional, and there really are no actors out there who could have replaced the origional cast. i think that for that reason the movie makers didn't try to duplicate the cast. i think jessica did a great job as daisy! dyeing her hair would have ben a mistake. she doesnt have the same curves as the origional, however she has great curves :) yes there were major differences throughout between the movie and the series, but the movie does justice to the series. I for one didnt eben notice the swearing, and if i had kids i wouldnt worry about 8 or up seeing this movie (the rated vershon). your kids will hear much worse on the playground at school. its better not to hide the world from them, and just explain to them that that is ADULT language.

Shakey

I find it hard to believe that many of you actually think that the original series was meant to be a "family" show.  I would think that the young children of today would understand some "cuss" words, just as easily as the young children of the late '70's and early '80's understood that running illegal liquor, prostitution, counterfitting and assaulting police officers was part of everyday life in the Southern United States.

I liked how they did the sceans like in jail and the college... and how the DVD compared to the theater release...   I love the soundtrack to this movie, like AC DC when they are in the chase scene.  Just plain rocks to have that music and the Charger hauling azz, awesome.
I don't ever buy dvd's, but this one I will buy.   Thought the movie was pretty funny too, the Stifmeister is always funny, and Johnny was funny too.  Also liked the cameo appearances from the cops from that other movie, you know, when they get pulled over at the campus?    :smilielol:

I thought the movie was fair, until I borrowed DOH season 1 from my brother-in-law, and now I think the movie totally sucked. It was unnecessary, foul trash from beginning to end and bore no resemblance to the show except for the Charger and maybe Daisy and Cooter.
