Vacuum Operated Hood Scoop

A few of us were at the local pub on Saturday and the Barrett-Jackson auction was on.  The various preferences for the muscle cars of yore came up and I mentioned a Charger that I had seen back in 1980.  I was pumping gas in SC and a guy drives in with a Charger, I believe a late 60's vintage, that he had just purchased and one of the things that he mentioned was that it had a vacuum operated hood scoop. No one else I have ever mentioned it to had ever heard of this.

I'm hoping the experts in this group could straighten me out one way or the other. Did it exist and if it did, when?  Thanks in advance.

Yes....an Air Grabber

:yesnod: Airgrabber   , could even of been on a 71 GTX/Roadrunner or charger  !! or  even been custom fabricated on a second generation  :scratchchin: :shruggy: :popcrn:

Thanks for pointing that out. My mindset was 2nd generation Chargers since he suggested 60's vintage.

The car he saw very possibly was an early 3rd gen. Charger with the "Grabber" option.

It is a Ramcharger on the Chargers and Air grabber on the GTX.  one of my favorite options.  I installed it on my 73 and I love it.

Like someone else said, it could also be a custom fabbed setup on a second generation Charger.  I remember in MCG around 1997 they ran a story about a 1970 Charger, black, 440+6 with a custom Ramcharger hood.

Hurst made a show car out of a 69 Charger that had an Air Grabber.....That may be what he is talking about....that was the car that gave my friend the idea for his 70 BTW.
