1969 Charger R/T Body... WIW

My first WIW post here...

These two pictures were emailed to me today by the owner.  The car looks a bit rougher than I expected, but basically solid for restoring... gonna need a lot of parts though! :P

The car is supposed to be a real R/T, but has a 318 in it at the moment.  Another problem is no title, but I believe he said that it was bought from a small wrecking yard.  I plan to get the VIN number to have it run to see if it is clear of liens or other problems.

As can be seen in the pictures, the front end is pretty rough... note the rust out in the top of the fender.  The glass is all missing, and it looks like the interior is a mess.  Assuming the front end clip is toast, basically the car is just a rolling unibody...

So, what do you think its worth... and how much trouble to get a title assuming there are no show-stoppers on it?  I plan to try to see it in person in the next couple of days.

Thanks,

XS

Well if you have a front great.

Looks like the front was switched?  I mean from the door back it look pretty good.

Heck price is what you are willing to pay for the work you need to do. If you have the parts great if not that might be a headache.

The rear quarters actually look pretty good from the pics. How is the rest of the body besides the front clip?

The seller told me that the trunk floor is rusted through as well as some areas of the passenger compartment floorboard.  I will be looking the car over very closely, I am worried about rust in areas like the firewall, door jams, etc.

I am interested in the car if the unibody is pretty solid, I have some of the needed parts and can probably scrounge up the other items...

The seller is asking $750 for the car (no title tho...)

I am thinking about passing on it, but will definitely look it over first.

$500 doesn't sound like a bad deal. Then again with the prices of some body panels these days the $750 wouldn't be too bad if you just decided to use some of the sheet metal.

Looks like it was a vinyl top car.

I do not think 750 is bad for that I would not pay much more.  But I have seen worse go for more.

Just got a call from the seller with the VIN number of the Charger R/T... XS29L9GXXXXXX   My old trusty Texas MVD number to check on title status and registered owner doesn't work anymore.  I know that Texas changed some of the records access due to stalking concerns, does anyone know for sure the best  legal method to make sure the title is clear from major problems and find out who the last registered owner is.  I believe there are on-line services, but have never used them... hemi68charger (Troy) do you know?

I have it set up with the seller to go look at the car tomorrow...

Allen...
As far as checking any liens or anything, I called Austin DMV direct...  I asked the lady that answered the title/registration division if the 'Cuda had any warrants/liens on it and she said no..... The history of the car would entail submitting a form plus $5.. Of course, you have to have the complete VIN and not partials.....  I'm not sure how far back it went.. I was investigating the v-code '70 'Cuda I bought............

Hope this helps.......

I live near Fort Worth, Texas...

BTW everyone, I ended up buying the Charger... here is a link to a thread with new pictures of it: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,6549.0.html

Troy - Thanks for the info, I guess they can answer general questions still.  I did have a few problems several months ago when I called to ask a question about the registration status of my 440-6 Cuda, the first lady that I spoke with would not tell me anything about it, even whether it existed in their records.  I later called and talked to someone else who asked me a lot of questions to verify that I knew who the car was registered to, then answered some general questions about the status...

All this hassle from the same folks that will allow DS and BP to do partial VIN searches and contact the owners to do a "survey" about whether they were willing to sell their car to the caller... :flame:
