I have to agree that it is not the car it is the other variables around the lake to be concerned about.
We boated for years and always trailer-ed the boats. My wife and I would always go the the lake if (it was a new one for us) and watch the boat launches. It was very scary to see how what people did to launch a boat or jet ski. You see it all (most common that still makes me laugh "gunning the gas while the tow vehicle is still in reverse", "unhooking the trailer from tow vehicle with boat still attached to trailer" )

I tended to find the ramp that was not the easiest to get to as it was mainly used by the fisherman who a lot of times were but themselves so they had to have a system down.  The popular ramps were like Americas Funniest Video tryouts and sometimes so bad that we never took our boat to that lake.

Where I'm at in Florida there are lots of Boat ramps and plenty of parking with bathrooms some are even part of parks. I'm between 3 such ramps less then 10 min. away for Lake Seminole, Inter-Coastal Waterway and Gulf of Mexico access.

My boat launcher;

I certainly wouldn't get on a saltwater boat ramp with my car.

I was talking to Joe Muchado(sp)  he runs Winged Warriors site, at a car show here in Everett last summer.  He tows a 10,000 lb trailer with his Dodge Daytona.  You may be able to contact him on his site for the set up.

Checkmate is a fast hull. They were the hot-shot design in the 70's so he's screaming performance in those photos. (Well craft knocked off that hull with their Kona Koni line, got sued, lost to Checkmate and had to destroy all molds and inventory)  :2thumbs: The hitch in the photos is light duty. With only 3 mount points and made of thinner steel I think it would be rated for about 800-1,000 lb. or so. Part of the equation is proper tongue weight by having the "load balanced" on the trailer and the trailer suited for the load. That hitch would be fine for a Jet Ski or small lightweight boat with not to heavy a hull or motor.(aluminum trailer/boat)

b5blue: You are absolutely right- that is a light duty hitch. Back then It was kind of the standard, but then the old boat was smaller and lighter too. I would not do any serious towing now with it.  I have a truck for that. This is just for show.
Checkmate is a fast boat. One of my grown-up toys. Best speed in this one is 67mph. No slouch on the water. Loves gas as much as the 440, LOL.
Seattle: Thanks for reposting the pics. As i told you, I am not a computer whiz. Look better when they are enlarged to see some detail. Appreciate the help. if you have time , email me how you resized them so I can try it next time. Thanks.
