It is hard for me to understand what is happening over at the Autotrader Classics site.

Just for grins I went on there last night, and punched up "dodge charger".  An ad for a 1969 Charger RT came up.

The car pictured and discribed was arguablely one of the most desirable chargers around.  You know, 1969 R/T SE, triple black, 6 pak, numbers matching, 4 speed, Dana, mint shape, etc......   The car was a beauty.

Guess the price advertised?     8 grand.     Eight.     Thousand.

Of course....the number listed ended up being a fax number.  And the ad is no longer listed today.

What gives?  This apparently was just someone getting their rocks off by listing a great car that was by no means for sale at that price.   What could be the possible reason for doing this?  Is this a common occurance?

This is a common occurrence, scammers tryin to make some cash.

Just wait till you see adds that have pictures of the "car" which is really pictures of members cars! or even pictures of different cars, AKA having white interior in one photo and red in the other.

Troy

Yep, scammers. Been going on for years.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Yeah, I've seen a Dodge Dart GTS on the Autabuy site for over a year now. Good price.
But the description doesnt match the car. Description says triple black GTS, but the photo is of a Maroon car.
A nice GTS would have sold long ago for the price they are advertising.

WHITE AND RED 69

The best ones I see are on ebay, where there is a perfect charger all restored with a hemi and all the best options and then it says first 5 grand takes it. And there is only one picture for it. Damn scammers!

Just Today A guy that works for me walks in my office  to ask some advise.. bought a 2003 Goldwing bike for $3950...worth $15,000...he was so happy...found the add in the Auto trader.....called thenumber and had a girl answer, she said she was back home in Montreal with a sick child and needed the money (yeah right).....he fell for it
He says he will buy it.......Next thing she sends ALLOT of real looking documents that says it will be sold thru ebay motors for secure payment etc....
he printed out what looked like real Auto trader paperwork and Ebay indicating that Ebay and Autotrader are linked....hmmmmm

then the Kicker.....says at bottom of Ebay motors paperwork to send secured payment thru Western Union....then they will deliver the Bike for him to hold for 15 days to make sure he is happy with the purchase then Ebay will release money to a third party IN THE UK...OMG

He was asking me if I would let Him off early to go send the money.....I sat this 48 year old guy and explained life to him and he was about to be a victim of fraud...he was devastated as he thought he had hit the Mother Load!......

Just goes to show ya how many people can fall for this sort of thing........I told him to call the local police fraud dept and the auto trader as they should be screening allot better!

Anythings possible, but is anyone stupid enough to send someone $$ without making sure a deal is legit?  Sure, everyone has bought a few things sight unseen, but for small amounts of dough.

"Hey there, Guido.  Yeah, it's me.  Say, I got that 8 large together and I'll send it right down.  Just hold that sweet car for me and I'll be down to get it next week.   Yeah man, I trust you, I mean why not?  I've never seen the car or you, but what's wrong with that, you sound cool to me!"

Who would give anyone money for a car without seeing it first, or after one hell of a background check?

HeavyFuel

Good example, 71green.

I guess if you want something badly, you'll believe almost anything to make it happen.
