:iagree:  The drivers side HP valve cover did not have those tabs. Because the
#7 spark plug wire runs around the HP exhaust manifold.

The valve cover hold down bolt in the front lower corner, should be on the
top side of the valve cover, where the stud is coming out and vysa vera.

So it would be correct for a 383 440 non HP engines, C-Bodys and evan big
block trucks.

Also the correct location for the stud is in the forward lower head hole......

Drivers side cover.....smooth....no wire tabs at all

Interesting.  It has the original motor, so I wonder what's up?  There's a discussion I have about the breather, too.

Could be they ran short of the "correct" one and just threw one on that fit.  So if you pull the tabs off, wouldn't yours be correct as it were.  Note that the chrome oil breather is now available repop for $85.

Might have the original block but the V/C's have been changed along with other things.....a lot can be modded in 40+ years

looks to be a 67 OR 68 slide on style breather, easy to change. It is amazing the things people
changed in the 70's, and 25 years later, some of those parts are so dirty they look original.

C-Body or 69 440 A-Body (same cover). I have seen black oil caps on a few original cars....340's and 440's but the vast majority have been chrome on 440's. It probably got aftermarket valve covers at one time and a subsequent owner did the best he could with the covers.
