I still maintain that had the gas shortages of the 70's never occured the compact car revolution would not have made the inroads that it did.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood your posts.  I was reading it that you felt the foreign compacts were going to take over the market no matter what.

No,..  my point was that the German Japanese and now even the dang (a Mopar Man Jim word there...  :D)  Italians are eating the Domestic Auto industries lunch - despite our hardware whupping their asses in WWII...

I've been tellin' you guys... it is a far improvement over the current design. when you see all the subtle little details, the Mopar folks tried hard given the platform they had to work with. yeah it still has 4 doors (ain't gonna change that ), the front end grille treatment still has the Ram look to it although IMO more refined.( see it in person, the photo kind of skews it a bit ) it still has the cross bar ( I believe that may go away now that Ram is separate from Dodge. It is very much like I saw it before I was retired  from Design Office in 11/08. I abhored the Charger name on the current model, I would drive this new one.

that's it exactly. Chrysler had to make this model to appeal to it's largest demographic.they didn't build this car to appease us older baby boomers, there ain't enough of us. but I think that the new Charger has more to it than just a family car.....

Once they start pulling in on the service drive and I get to see them up close and personal, maybe then it'll grow on me. For now, I'll go with the challenger...

Yeah, the Challenger is a nice looking ride, I like it :yesnod:

Needs a supercharger though, and a diet ::)

I went to the Dodge dealer Wednesday to get a new voltage regulator for my '74 and we were dicussing the fact there was no mention of the SRT8 in the 2011 release and he went to allpar and showed me this... The 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 is expected to have a 475-horsepower, 460 lb-ft 6.4 liter V8 engine with a five-speed automatic transmission; cylinder deactivation may avoid the $1,750 gas guzzler charge. Pricing is expected to be around $45,000 including destination but not the guzzler tax, if any. So no 2011 model release.  His boss went to the Orlando meeting and said the guy leading the conference said the REAL NUMBERS are more like.... and this will not be released to the auto industry....the first number(4) is equal to the last number(5) and the middle number is lower than this number(7), but higher than the first number(4), and the last number(5) is no number(0) making the true hp rating 550. WOW. Read more at http://www.allpar.com/cars/dodge/charger-2010.html?kcplink=1 He also showed me a picture of the SRT8 that had black and white paisley camo on it so it was hard to see, but it has a bulge hood that goes back close to the windshield. Could not see what the opening looked like or if there was one.

$45,000 for 550 horsepower is a bad deal?  You'll pay $40,000 for an SRT8 right now.

You're nuts. :shruggy:

I don't think he'd pay anything for it. Most of these blowhard haters wouldn't buy a new car anyway.

That is one sweet Mustang.  I would have to take that over a new Challenger myself.  :2thumbs:

Not sure why I have done a complete 180 on Ford.  I love the new Mustangs, and I am looking at a new F450 dually.  :o

I sat in a new Mustang Shelby a couple weeks ago while getting my wife's F-150 serviced and no way Jose. Like sitting in a Pinto + a Rolls Royce price tag to boot. 45K is chump change compared to this 2 seater. Maybe for some poor little rich kid spoiled mommas boy.
