I've got a serious thing for the 67-69 Barracudas

No, not as serious a thing as for the 2nd gen Charger but very close. So much so that I'm already plotting a future purchase (maybe 6 years away) as I work toward convincing my 10-year-old daughter that a Barracuda would be a good first car. :D I don't want to mess with another full-on restoration for quite a while so I'd like to find a half-decent fastback at a half-decent price. What are these things going for now? Are the fastbacks more popular?

I found this really nice slant-six fastback but it's spendy: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ctd/1536841738.html

Maybe this would be a better way to go: http://bend.craigslist.org/cto/1518968698.html

My soon-to-be 8-year-old wants a wing car. Not sure how I'm going to swing that. :shruggy:

We had a 68 notchback with a slant 6 and auto trans...was a great car...

speedfreak68

Your not the only one!!!! I NEED one of those cars!!

TheGhost

I loved mine, regret selling her every day.  Awesome cars.  And still affordable, compared to other Mopars of the era.

I started loving them back in 1980, I rebuilt the engine in my bosses 68 Fastback. Now I am
partial to the 68 Fastback   :yesnod: :yesnod:

I had many speed runs with this guy, 360 crate motor and a 5sp with 410's It pulled about
300 horses at the rear tires   ;D  RIP Don.

I'm a big fan of them too. Back in 2007 I was looking at buying a '65 (not my favorite year) that was sitting down the road from me. I never did end up getting it, it disapeared not too long after I first spotted it. I asked DS for a photoshop and he posted this 2nd Gen Barracuda.....I fell in love needless to say. If I had a '67-'69, it would be exactly like this but I'd say with either grey TT's or larger Magnum 500s like I'm going to put on the Charger. :2thumbs:

If I ever get one I'd like one with a 273, just because I've never had a 273. Did they have the 273 in 68?

Dodge did, but Plymouth went over to the 318 in 68.

I don't think so....67 I think was last year for the 273 in the Barracuda....then they put the 318 & 340 in and replaced it.

Im with you, Bull, I have always loved 67-9 Barracudas. If I ever find the right car, I would probably sell my '73 rallye to fund the project. My wifes great uncle has a '68 notchback, slant 6/3 speed, that he bought new in '68. The car was last registered in 1977, he has it sitting inside his carport, and is in really good shape for its age. I have tried to talk him into selling it, but to no avail. He said he has 'given' it to his son, which is NOT a car guy, and has even bothered to come get it from him. But he thinks his son will come get it and restore it someday.

A notchback is close to half what a fastback brings.

Yeah, I'd take either, fastback or notch. I know the fastbacks are worth more... but I sorta lean toward notchbacks.
Here's some pics of a 69 notchback I was intrested in last year, 318 auto for $1500 I passed on.

I love the notch just as much as the E-bodies  weird huh ? :shruggy:

I think I like the notchback better than the fastback.  There was also a convertible but they go kind of high since there were not too many of them.  These little A-bodies are perfect for a smallblock.  360's drop right into them.  And the 904 will work just fine.  The perfect cruising car for kicking around town in.  Paint it red and you will have a sharp little car.  One problem may be no sheetmetal being repoped.  For that matter, not much else may be available body wise.  And don't forget, teens are real bad to wreck a car.  Might be better to get one of these and give it to your daughter when she is in her twenties and get her a barge now with plenty of sheet metal around her and plenty of mass.  Reminds me of the story about the guy that drove a cadillac.  Someone asked why a cadillac and not a VW.  He replied that if he had a wreck in a VW that it would be like it happened in his face but if he had a wreck in a cadillac that it would be like it happened in the next state.

I like the Bend, Oregon car best.

Nacho-RT74

there is one thing makes me DON'T LIKE ( allmos to hate ) the 67/69 Barracudas/Cudas and is the basic plain and Cheap dash and interior look, opposite to the exterior look what I think is really nice.

BUT THIS DASH WOULD MAKE ME CHANGE OF MIND:

Still I will give to this some woodgrain finish somewhere on dash bezel

I like the '68 the best of those 3 years, they had a slightly different trim appearance to them. My wife & I found one, a ragtop with a slant six, at a yard sale that ran & drove, for $600 in the mid 1990's. It was one of the most difficult cars I ever tried to find parts for.  ::)

Hey bull! I had seen your signature oregonlive link,. but didn't think you were from Oregon.  If you are interested I know a guy in Salem with a '67 Baracudda in great condition that would probably part with it  :2thumbs:  .  Let me know if you are interested, or just want to come take a look.

I LOVE that car  ;D

Maybe just a look unless it's a smokin' deal because I can't justify parting with too much Charger resto money right now. Any idea how much he would want?

SG1022

Not too sure what he wants, he tells everybody he will never sell it.  He has had vendor spot in our antique store in Salem for 22 years, and I know him pretty well.  He says he won't sell, but I am getting the feeling lately that he might be selling it in the near future.  I will have to talk to him about how much he would sell it for if he wanted to.

Where are you at?

bull

Up in Fairview (Gresham/Troutdale area). There's a 67-69 fastback Barracuda near my work I cruise by once in a while. I need to stop and talk to that guy one of these days. :shruggy:
