how you would build it ?

for example:

I like 69 body, with 66/67 rotation headlights, 68 seat covers, 3rd gens Shifter location what sits REALLY CLOSE TO DRIVER making more comfortable, T handle or something similar, tuff wheel ( not mandatory though ), ign switch on column, ( but still earliers turning switch ).

And electrically all 71s options gots with the 74 seatbelts setup. BUT ELECTROLUMINISCENT GAUGES.

Thumbwheel radio of course, gives a smooth finish to dash... woodgrained

70 hood turning lights. I like the trim around them. Also 70 sidemarkers

I'm undecided between higback or buckets with headrest, but will be weird to mix the 68 covers design on to higback buckets I like the diff color on pleats look from 68 ( thats why I like 68 covers ). Also I likes a lot 68 headlights but wouldn't want to make that BIG change on the 69 body. I like 69 tail lights too so, whatever. Of course preffer the separated trim on tail lights and not the one piece trim from 70s

also likes more the hanging acelerator pedal beside the one attached to floor.

This is a quick thought I had, maybe will add somethjing more later... what would you do ?

I think Dodge hit it out of the park regarding certain things with each year. :yesnod: I mean, I'm happy with everything the certain years had, especially regarding 2nd gens.

well I'm not totally agree... dash lighting was a step back, mainly because cost and manteinance stuff.

and comforf concept came out later, with the shifter location closer to body ( although A bodies still got same earlier setup still on 70s )

jaak

I've said this before.... but I would love to have a second gen with a 3rd gen interior. I love the dash, seats, etc of a 3rd gen, but have to give the outside styling I'd have to go with a 2nd gen.

Jason

tan top

think the 70 R/T SE interior   is much better than the 68 -69  , sorry to say  :yesnod:  , would stick a complete set up in mine tomorrow if i could !!  but i would'nt  because it would not be original for a 69 , think that makes sence  :scratchchin: :icon_smile_wink:

I DID Build a Charger using parts from just about every year you mentioned...

Car started out as a 1970, Used 1969 Front clip, 1968 Dash/trim parts as well as front buckets, 1966 Driveshaft and clutch linkages....

I think I know what Nacho means, I have thought about this myself.
I would do one of 2 things either 1. use a 68-70 Body with a 71 interior, flusher door handles from 71-74, hidden wipers (71-74) 68-69 front hideaway's and get rid of the side front vent window.

The other way would basically have the rear of a 68-70 Charger on a 71 I love the look of a 68-70 from the back but I think those years missed out on thing's that the 71-74's had.

Mike DC

I'd want a 69 body, with the sidemarkers & rear backup lights shaved, the headrests removed, the wheels replaced with AR Vectors, a pushbar on the front  . . . . oh wait, that's the General Lee.

  ::)

Nacho-RT74

LOL

I always have though myself about the 3rd gen interior. IS TRUE that is more comfy and friendly than a 2nd gen, but, dunno if I will make a complete 3rd gen interior match inside a 2nd gen. Will be interesting to see that and maybe I would go for it. But I like the "classy" 2nd gen dash too. But is definitelly true the 3rd gen interior is way better designed, comfy and friendly than 2nd gens and EVEN MORE than a 1st gen.

Maybe also a clean door glass view without the vent window will help.

Of course 70 Mirrors.

I like the hidden wipers too more than regulars , but how would you make that on a 2nd gen? will need HEAVY body modifications

2nd gen body. 3rd gen interior, except dash lighting, console & rear seat would be 1st gen. I think a "fastback" on a 2nd gen could be kool, but I cant picture it.

bull

Hmmm. I think I'd go with the 68 body, 70 high back seats (with a 68 pattern design) and Six Pack, 3rd gen Tuff Wheel and bulge hood, maybe a 69 500 rear window. Good for starters.

b5blue

This is an easy one for me! My 70 has B5Blue inside and out and a 440 with a six pack and 727 trans. 8 3/4 3.23 tru track, tinted glass, HD suspension, high back buckets (came that way) floor shifter and all I have to do is work my buns of fixing up the body now. (and find a real 70 racing mirror to go with the one for the right side!)  :icon_smile_big: P.S. It was a 318, 904, 7 1/4 axle, A/C, cruise control, bucket seat/console car new so I don't have to sweat it being a daily driver ether!

This is true, MAJOR mods needed to pull that one off but it could be done I'm sure but there wouldn't be to many out there willing to do that to a 68-70 Charger. Years ago I did see in a Aussy V8 magazine a guy who had a 68-70 and he had no vent glass I don't know if he had real glass in their or what but it was one piece like a third Gen  :scratchchin:

yeah a fastback deal will be nice ( something like 68/69 GT Torinos got ) but is REALLY HARD TO PICTURE IT, being we are already in love with the 2nd gen body

Yeah, I always liked the '67-73 stangs & '68-71 Torinos. I had a '68 stang fastback yrs ago(shhhhh don't tell anyone :D). Maybe extending the sails back to resemble a fastback?  :scratchchin:

BROCK

I really like the C500 backlight.  Its' 22 degree angle looks near optimal in the aero report.
The 3rd Gen, which I love, was a big step back from the Daytona aerodynamically speaking.
I'd have to go with a 70 R/T SE with the C500 backlight, 71 chin spoiler, Daytona fendertop
air extractors,  68 Hemi, 71 4 speed, 11.75 disc brakes from a 77, 28" radiator from a 73.
3 gen dash & console would be nice.  I'd like the gauges backlit like a modern mopar.

Nacho, what kind of topic is this? The 1969 Charger is perfection twice distilled and cask aged. There is no reason to make any modification whatsoever to this pinnacle of automotive engineering and design. If I could have any Charger, any way I wanted it, I would have a 69 R/T  440-4 in perfect factory/ survivor condition. I can't believe some of the sacrilegious statements from our own members!!!!  You people should be ashamed of yourselves!!!

Oh sadly....he is off by 1 year I fear....the 70 is perfection perfected to something even more perfect than the previous perfection as witnessed by the fact that 70's need not require a "headlight door holder upper thingy thing" to hold up their electric-o-maticly operated headlight doors!

To me they are all The Best of Best and all have features as you stated that are cool! When I bought my 70 it was a find for me! It had been sitting behind my friend's shop for a year waiting for me, I would have bought it any year 1st 2nd 3rd gen...any or no motor...I wish I had the extra 700.00 so I could have saved the 3rd gen. 400 Ralley (triple white) next to mine but it took everything I could manage to get mine on the road 15 years ago.  :2thumbs: Now like a good dog, it's part of the family.
