I know the subject line is highly technical but what are they really called and where can I get a couple of them? Thanks

OH...The Thingy thingy thing! Thanks for clearing that up!  :eek2:

Are you talking about the W shaped bar that holds the vacuum pod to the plastic door or the metal braket that secures the vacuum pod?

I wish I had a picture. It appears to be a stabilizer of sorts that steadies the headlight doors when they're open.................kinda thingy. I've seen them mounted on the vacuum pod tray.

I know exactly what thingies you're talking about. Strange, but I think this was a '69-only item. My '68 does not have them, & I've gone thru several '68 grilles which also did not have them.
They used one per side. It's basically used to hold the headlight door open while servicing the headlamps.
I may have some kicking around. You need a pair??

Well there you go! A "Headlight Door Lamp Service Retainer Brace" (thingy!) Boy that sure is allot more complicated headlight door mechanism then on a 70. (They just have that goofy relay set up)

twodko

Thanks guys!

Bill I'm not sure if this was a 1969 "early build" without them or a "late build" with them part. My grille has the holes for them but no hardware. The grille was never pulled before I removed it for resto so I'm thinking my car never had them. Thank you for the offer but if my car never had them I'm leaving them off. What is the concensus here regarding these retainer braces? Keep it '69 correct or pass on these small parts? I'm returning the car to its former glory but it won't be a 100 point car by any means.

mmmm, on 68s the door was hold open with magnets inside the vacuum, helping to keep them folded up.

I know 69s got a diff vacuum, without those magnets, and getting some "torsion spring" what i think now maybe is THAT THINGY ( what is not a Torsion spring really, but simply a spring ).

soooo, maybe thats the deal on this ? earliers 69 getting actuators still with magnet

What do you search for them as on Ebay? Not "thingys" i guess. Could do with a set, mine are all rusty.

Hey Neal!

Happy New Year. I was telling brother Dave that it may have been a whatchamacallit instead of a thingy........I had a lot to drink that day.

Thanks anyway Mike. Bull thinks he may have 2.

Ignacio,

Sí, lo sé, yo sólo podía pensar en algo ingenioso que decir. ¿No es castellian la lengua nacional de España?

Neal,
My comment was that you are a man of many talents!

Ghoste

In the 69 parts catalog even though it shows the part broken away from that main bracket on the back, it lists both brackets as a single part in the text.  It only describes the assembly as the Headlamp Door Actuator Mounting Bracket, part number 2785 883.  Keep in mind that if you go searching e bay for this part number that the 68 version which only shows the main bracket, not the "thingy" uses the same part number.

Nacho-RT74

Ignacio,,

Thanks for that. I knew castellian was the root spanish language from which all spanish dialects emerged in all spanish speaking countries.
History is the ulimate teacher, too bad people speak without knowledge.
Gracias, Su sido un placer!

Ghoste,

Thank you for that info. Bill is sending me a couple.
