In the Chicago craigslist, someone is selling only the vin and body (fender?) tags to a 69 R/T

I don't think that is legal at all.

It may be perfectly legal to sell. It's probably completely illegal to use:scratchchin:

i know im gonna catch alot of crap for this, not saying i agree with it. but what is the difference in putting these on another body and taking a rusted shell of a car and replacing all the metal with amd stuff? its still not original in any way. the only thing different is whats being replaced.

again I DON"T agree with doing that kind of thing, but really how is it any different than taking a car that would be unrestorable without replacing 50% or more of the metal and putting new metal on it? and thats done a lot.  once the car is unrepairable what difference does it make anymore? what really makes the car is the motor and body.  i know that doing this kind of thing is like counterfeiting, but if its not represented as original numbers matching why is it such a big deal.

basically what im saying here is anyone who has a lot of metal work done to their car is basically rebodying it anyway.

Yeah, now that Unicorn or Dynacorn or whoever is reproducing the Chally bodies aint going to take me long to sell the T/A stuff I salvaged from a creek bank Chally

In some states "finding" a VIN tag like that may be the only route to using one of those Dynacorn bodies.  I heard they are like $18K though and you would still essentially need another Challenger to build one.  A lot of part are available but not enough to build a whole one new.  Imagine the parts bill if you could?

OK say you go to the junk yard and strip a car u get every thing -dash with vin build sheet under the seats and etc. hay any one want to buy ???
I guess anyone can do any thing if they can get away with it! :shruggy:

The difference is how the law is written.
Replacing parts = ok
Swapping identification = felony

Pretty simple if you ask me but apparently it's common enough for a lot of people to look away.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I heard about someone who tried to take a rebodied car across the northern border, i.e., Canada, and almost got put in jail.  If I remember correctly, his car was confiscated untill he could prove it wasn't stolen.
