99 xj oil psi

Test drove a 99 xj sport 4l 5spd the other day. And noticed it had low oil psi. Estimating from the gauge it was 1.5.  The xj has 290,000 km on it. Is this more than likely do to the fact that the engine got so much milage on it and is warn? Or could it be a faulty gauge/ sending unit?

Guy only wants 3600 canadian for it and hes pretty negoatiable im sure. Figure I can get it for 2800 canadian cause its got a few small things it needs plus the milage.

the pump could be worn or the brgs in the engine may need to be repalced I bet niether is a cheap fix

what would be the acceptpal oil psi at idle?

20 Psi at hot idle is what i consider to be acceptable. Sounds like the engine needs a rebuild.

maybe if you changed the oil and filter and put some lucas oil treatment in there you can get a few more psi out of it haha, 3 grand canadian for a 99 xj is still a good price even with a worn engine.
