That car still exists.  It was built here in Milwaukee and I've seen it in person several times over the years.

No, not the first.  1960-61 Ford Galaxie 2 door hardtops had a very aerodynamic roof line. The 1962 Ford roof was squared off like a brick.  Now, back in those days, NASCAR had convertable races besides the normal "Grand National" races.  Ford 'engineered' a 60-61 roof to fit the 62 Galaxie convert, and assigned it a part number.  I believe it was legal for 1 race before Bill France told Ford exactly where they should install the new top.  Just in time for the 1963 Daytona 500, Ford released the new 1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 XL 'Fastback' as a regular production item.  Ford finished 1,2,3,4 and 5 at Daytona that year.

What he said!

The special 1962 Ford aero roof was called "Starlift".    It was the roof from the 60 and 61 Starliner.

Hey Doug, is it in a museum somewhere?

As far as I know, it is privately owned.   It showed up at a racing oriented dinner/car show a couple years ago.   If I see it again, I'll get some photos of it.   It's still pretty much the same as it was built.
