I have a 06 Charger, the shifter is stuck in park. What could it be?

Cooter

Shift interlock system...There SHOULD be a manual overide somewhere near the shifter..Like an access panel that you pop up and stick the key or something like a screwdriver in it and hold down while working the shifter...

could it be the brake switch too? some systems will not allow the vehicle to shift if the brake pedal is not applied.  i have seen this, but not sure if it is the same with the chagnum.

charger, avenger, 300. magnum all have issues with this. I haven't taken one apart but 2 people i work with have had issues and we only have 2 of these cars at work. I ordered the parts for the one as soon as i said the issue the parts man knew what to order. The issue is right at the shifter not the brake light switch.

Admittedly it's a slight pain when these interlock systems screw up but overall I thank God every single day that the Feds forced this desparately needed safety item onto new vehicles.  Think of the millions of accidental deaths that have been prevented by having us step on the brake before we can place our vehicles in gear. :D

Do your brake lights work? If brake lights don't work, then you can't shift it.

You can get it out of park....turn key one notch off of lock...you should be able to get shifter out of park....it works on some cars, some not.

It sounds like the same logic they used when they "saved" all these jobs in America by giving wall street and the banking industry a couple hundred bazillion dollars.
