Thanks for the concern everyone. We did what we had to do today. One of the hardest things we ever had to do though.

I know how hard it is.  Very sorry for your loss.  You'll meet up again.  A year or two ago I posted a writing called  "The Rainbow Bridge" for someone going through the same thing.  I'm out of town for awhile so don't have access to it now.  Maybe someone can find it and post it for you.   :'( :'( Bob

       The Rainbow Bridge

        inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over......... together

Sorry to hear. Our family went through a similar situation with Rusty (golden ret. cocker mix) was 17 when he started having some problems it was a hard last ride to the vet. He loved cars and would sit for hours in the car while I worked outside.

Sorry about your loss, Dennis, I feel for you.  We had a salt-pepper miniature Schnauzer named Chauncy when I was growing up years ago.  He died the same way (cancer) at the age of 14.  Great dogs to have.....

Thanks Chad. I have had other dogs but he was someting else. He would sometimes throw a fit if he couldn't go with us somewhere. He would wait on the back of our couch by our bay window all day waiting for me or the lady to get home. We once left on vacation for 10 days and had a niece stay at the house with him. He hardly ate or slept the whole time we were gone. He would be excited to see us if we were gone for just 30 min.

Thanks Nacho. Pretty tough today at work with hardly any sleep. He slept at the foot of our bed since we got him at three months. I sometimes take a nap when I get home from work and he is right there. Today I just couldn't do it.

Thanks Ed. We may get another someday but not right away. My wife is taking it pretty hard too. She almost got fired today because she took off yesterday just for a dog! Her boss is a bastard.....a millionaire cheap skate SOB. He gave her a dollar raise in the last 5 years. She has an interview Thursday....we are praying hard.

Here is a winter and a summer pic. I kept him short haired in the summer.
