It's thoroughly winter now for those of us not in the tropics and I don't know about the rest of you but I find myself daydreaming about summer road trips a lot.  Myself I like the day trips that take me through the back roads with a stop at some small town bar and grille or good old diner.  Long trips have their own special mystique as far as taking the primary highways and getting out of the car several hours later feeling numb from the waist down but smugly satisfied with surviving the ordeal.
Which way do you like to move your car?

As fast as possible as long as possible. I like to go places where they have no highways, usually you don't come across anything interesting on them anyways. But I never really stop, well unless I run out of gas of course (or break down), but I just have to keep on moving. I don't even really know why but it's compulsive, even if I don't have a care in the world I will not stop until I have reached my destination as fast as possible. If my eyes are getting too tired a one hour nap + half a liter of red bull will get me started again. And the dumbest thing is the best time for driving I think is between 11PM and 5AM when I can't see anything because it's pitch black. I guess I just love the driving and the best thing is when the sun starts to rise and you are surprised to see what kind of landscape you are in.

Oh yeah and road trips aren't just for the summer, snow and ice can add just that little bit of extra action to an otherwise seemingly boring drive. Just don't do it in the Charger, it would be a waste.

I have to agree with Arthu. My best trips have always been those at night when I zone completely out, music on the radio, no illumination but the headlights and the dash, driving for hours on end while blocking out everything else (the speedo in particular). Highway, back roads, not too picky.
Most memorable of all was doing 370 miles of highway in my then newly bought 9C1 (these things eat highway like a fat boy eats potato chips), coming home at 4 in the morning absolutely beat to crap and still wanting to chew another 200 miles with the V8 humming in my ears before sleeping.

Is there a medical term for this? Kowalski's syndrome maybe?  ;)
