It's been a long time since NASCAR opened their season in California but does anybody miss it?

Opening the season at Daytona is better, but I do miss Riverside races

TruckDriver

I miss Riverside. I was on the grounds once where the track used to be.

I personally think, Daytona should be the last race now the way the point chase is.  :Twocents:

I'm 40, was a Winston Cup (and Richard Petty fan) from 74 (first race at Nashville) until earlier this decade (can't take the sameness anymore).

I miss the season opener being at Riverside, and I miss the tradition of it being the last race with the previous year's cars.  Richard's 3rd Gen Charger ran its last race there, at the start of the 78 season.

I liked the Riverside appetiver followed by the Daytona 500 meal.

And Daytona should always open the season.

Personally, the *only* NASCAR races I will make an effort to watch are the road races. They always were more interesting to watch, and moreso now that the cars are all the same. NASCAR doesn't like them, and the TV networks don't like them because they sell a lot less tickets to the track and take more resources and skill to broadcast effectively.

I stopped watching round tracks back when they went to radial tires.

Miss it because I live close enough now to go see it if it was still run.

Riverside was cool back in the day.  Much more interesting than the ovals.

If NASCAR was more like this I would be watching it again.

I stopped watching when they let Toyota run.

Bingo!

It's not about Riverside or anything else...  I just don't care for the current product they're peddling.

Oh and I very much agree with that.  That's why I directed the question to old time NASCAR fans.  The new version is just a bunch of billboards on wheels set to an exciting soap opera subplot.

While I'm going on about foreign issues with Nascar. The other thing that I don't like is the way they handled the switch from Winston paying. Winston paid for many many years. Drivers won the winston cup. I bet it says so on the trophie. Those years should still be referred to as winston cup not who ever is paying this year. They didn't buy past years but they talk like they did.

The current road courses that stock cars race on can't come close to what Riverside was.   If they were ever to race at Road Atlanta (not likely) that would be very exciting and very close to Riverside.   The Glen is good, but Sears Point is almost too technical.   Riverside had a real nice flow to it.
