Just curious to what cold be causing my buddies 69 Superbee to move while in park. Went to Autozone the other day any the car wasn't in the parking spot anymore. The car does it often, a least we are aware of it now!! :rotz: Any ideas!!?!?!

I've seen this plenty of times before, it is nearly always due to a defective parking brake.

The car should stay put with or without the parking brake engaged. I'd suspect the pawl as well - or the car has some seriously low compression.

not sure on the price, but you have to pull the driveshaft and the tailshaft housing off of the trans to replace it.  if the operating rod is damaged for some reason the valve body may also have to come out.  if you take it to a shop it can get expensive pretty fast.

BINGO!!!!

Your shifter bushings are properly well worn and are not allowing the park lever to full engage when shifting into park.  This happened on my 73.  I replaced the bushings and voila!!! I had park without any issues.

Check the shifter cable, especially if it's anywhere near headers or exhaust. The cable could be bent/tweeked/messed up/melted or generally "gremlinized", meaning the tranny is only randomly in park. :shruggy:

Yeah ok, the point was that if you use the brake you won't lose your car.

Seriously, like the others have said check your linkage bushings and adjustment. If they're so worn that you can't find park, you probably don't have secure detents for the other positions either-I've played the soupy floor shift game before and column shift can be way worse.

I'm seriously a big fan of functional parking brakes. They're cheap to make right.

I agree with bushings, my '73 is doing the same thing, and it got so bad I had to start the car in neutral and had trouble finding gears.  Check those before checking out the pawl.
