68 Charger with the factory 318

I have a 68 with the factory 318. What is an economial way to build power without going to a 383 440?
I am planning cam/intake/headers/ignition if I sticck with the 318. Does anyone have some experience what works and what does not? I think these bone stock were 230 horse? I would like to bump it up to 100 horse or so.

My 318 Res-a-pee....

Bore block .030 to clean and square.
get a good set of forged pistons and zero deck the block
Turn crank to square up
Get a good set of Edelbrock heads
Nice Edelbrock Air Gap intake
750 CFM Holley/Eddy carb
Camshaft around .500 lift and around .235 @ .050 Duration...
Good set of TTI headers..
around a 2500 Stall converter...

Also, you likely have 2.76 gear ratio, so upgrading to a 3.55 or 3.73 ratio with that nice motor, adding a taller tire, would make for a real sweet package.

This should be good for around 375-400 HP 318, with pretty good street manners...

Yep, played with lots of Stroker Kits.

If yer gonna go Stroker;
just crate the "original" 318 for posterity and save it, start with a 360 Block and $10K

If you stay 318, I LIKE COOTERS Res-a-Pee  :2thumbs:
