Another headlight door question

Here's the deal:  The 68 Charger original parts book says that the vacuum hoses for the headlights coming through the firewall has 4 hoses.  Interesting b/c all of the setups I've seen only have 3 hoses.  1 for the intake and the other 2 leading up to the canister under the battery.  Now, I can set this thing up with a little creativity using some extra hose and some more T connectors.  I just don't get the service manual's drawings on how to set this thing up. How are ya'll routing your hoses past the canister and to the 2 headlight actuators then incorporating them into the wiring harness?

On MY '70 Converted back to '69, I only had THREE (3) vac. hoses going into the firewall..I guess you COULD say there were FOUR (4) being that one extra does come off the engine to feed the system....I just ran mine piggybacked on the harness....

If you ask me, it should be the intake hose running to canister, then from canister to switch, then the two hoses from switch to headligths, one to open and the other one to close, both with T conectors just right before the first actuator to feed both sides

I guess canister must have a check valve on inlet hose tee  :shruggy:.

Now thinking. I have see some videos around and discovered mostly of cars have an slow or delayed movement on passenger side door. I think to cure this you should get same lenght hoses to both sides from T conector, to get on both same air/vacuum volume and get both working equal. Just my  :Twocents:

what I don't get is why some 66/67 videos have a similar delay, being electric. I know they use two separated motors. That doesn't happen on 70/72s

the hoses are color coded , amber/yellow goes to the top connection on the headlight actuator ! the plain hose NO stripe goes to the bottom , the hose with the green stripe goes to the vacuum canister !

if you cant make out the color codes on your lines , check out this picture of headlight switch , that's the order they run  :yesnod:

the big plain hose runs from the vacuum canister to the rear of the intake & connects to the vacuum tree

Speaking of that little vac. switch, do we know of anybody repopping that thing?

Ok, I found out what was throwing me off.  A separate hose is running from the canister to the back of the intake while the 3 hoses coming through the dash are routed to the actuators in the harness.
1 more thing, on the canister, there are 2 nipples big and small.  I'm assuming the hose going to the intake connects to the bigger one?  Thanks again for all your help.

yes correct , the  bigger one is for the hose from the intake vacuum tree  :yesnod:

so I was on the right track... never have dissasembled or seen that system, but just being logical.

Big hose between intake tree and canister. I guess there is a check valve at canister to hold the vacuum. Then another hose from canister to switch ( I didn't know wich one, but as stated, green ) and then the two outputs from switch to actuators, one to open and the other to close.

is the 68 actuator what does have a magnet built in actuators to keep better the OPEN position ? what about 69s ?

EDITING... found it, 69s have a torsion spring

the diaphragm was toast on my canister when i first got it in '95.....so   i removed it and filed it accordingly.....i just use direct vacuum from the manifold and wait a few seconds after turning off the headlamps for the doors to close.
