I read lilwendal's cluster restoration thread and he mentions to grab the magnetic wheel when you twist/pull the needle off so that you don't damage the needle bushing. What's the magnetic wheel and where is it?

Here's a pic of the back of my speedo:

It is inside the gauge cluster, and that would be after u get the dash out and apart, wouldn't it?  u just want to remove the cable, looks like its got a hose clamp on it, which gives me an idea :P although it looks like u just need to pull up the white latch, u can see it on the top of the cable in your pic (carefully as they r brittle) and pull the cable straight out.

I agree, the needle he's talking about is the one in the gauge face. To get the speedometer cable off there's a "catch" on the white plastic piece. I'm not sure why yours has a hose clamp - it looks like maybe someone rigged the connector onto the cable.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

the hose clamp is mostly because the white plug came loose or broken from the speedo wire cover. I have made that reapair job. It won't affect on remove the wire releasing the tab as far you can access to it.

I can see the tab ( yellow circle ) and the broken section ( green circle ) what demanded the hose clamp

Thanks guys, I thought you somehow have to hold the needle when u pull off the cable. Other than beeing a little inaccessible it shouldn't be too much of a problem getting the cable off.
