My wife just got laid off as a manager at wendy's the second week of december. So how are layoffs effecting you and how are you living through this??????

First off I am very sorry to hear this as I have been out of work for some time now and just recently hired by the V.A., this is a terrible time for that to happen. Florida has been hit hard and coming from a "construction" background made it even worse. There are jobs so do not give up! I had enough up and down with construction and turned to USAGov.Jobs web sight to help me find a job with benefits and security. It took 8 months to even hear back from them but I'm glad I started when I did. Please wish her good luck from me!

Sorry to hear about this....... Per b5blue, good advise.

There have been layoffs in my industry, oil and gas in Houston.. I've been lucky thus far. I still live a life slightly on pins and needles, especially since my wife watches kids here at the house for extra money. If my job goes, so does the benefits for the kids and us, my salary and retirement. One advantage in being in the Air National Guard, if push came to shove, I could always volunteer for a deployment in Iraq or Afghanistan to keep the house over our heads......

Best wishes in finding something else soon....

Sorry to here about the recent layoff.

I was laid off the end of summer 2008.  I was able to get back to work a month later, and then the company finally closed in May of this year.  I started up my own business out of my home, and luckily it has turned out better than my wife and I had ever dreamed.  I wish I would have done this before.  Good luck to you and your family.

I work in a machine shop that does medical work and we have had 2 layoffs  this year. A total of 35 people that will not be called back. Nearly every machine shop has had laid offs here.

Alaska is OK, around 7% unemployment. My company is always hiring if anyone is looking for a job. Good pay and lots of travel!

People actually believe that the troubled auto industry won't effect them.  Wrong!  It will effect everyone across the nation!  It already has!

I'm fairly certain the company I work for is thinking about laying people off. All the signs are there. So I just have had to start looking for a job. Hopefully I'm wrong and stuff turns around, but I'm not holding my breath.

One of the reasons I'm still in, a "just in case" factor if I get laid off on my civilian side...........

Sorry about the lay-off. It's hitting many of us below the belt in every way.

The auto industry was mentioned above, but I don't think anyone is really looking at the picture full circle. For instance: when one person loses a job it changes things for many. Let's say B5 loses his job and he stops going to Micky D's for his breakfast barito. Also he can't do that window's replacement on his house this year so Home Depot and ANDERSON just lost work along with the cook at Micky D's. The owner of the gas station is still getting his money, "maybe even more", due to B5 out looking for work. Problem there is gas is expensive and that big block Charger sucks the fuel like a fighter jet. Now he's thinking that the Charger will have to be put away till things get better. That will save a little on the insurance, but not the guy at the tire store is out of a job due to B5 not doing long smokey burnouts with the Turbo Jet Fighter Charger...  I think you see where this is leading...

Florida is a different and strange place to work for most. We are a HOTEL/Vacation type state that brings in a very large percentage of revenue from people vacationing from other states and countries. When the USA is hurting, most of the VACATIONING places are hurting as well.  I just heard something about one of the largest hotel/casino's in Vegas closing something like 1500 rooms til further notice. There goes ALLLLLLOTTTTT of jobs.

And B5, IS working these days so the turbo jet will be seen on many roads near me soon....  ;)
