First new plane for Boeing in about 50 years.  I hope this foreshadows a turnaround for the airline industry in general but particularly in North America.

I wondered if they had parachutes on board?

I hope you are correct. Wonder who got the 60% of the engineering and mfg work that was "outsourced" though.

50 years? The 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777 have all gone into service since 1968 (the 777 in 1995). ;)

I tried to watch the web cast of the first flight yesterday but had technical difficulties. With all the delays I'm glad to see an important milestone reached. I know some people working on the project and I think one of the biggest complaints/mistakes was the outsourcing. I don't think that will happen (at least not on the same scale) in the future.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Ghoste

It seems longer.   I still hope it bodes well for the company.

Interesting - I just read that by splitting all the tooling and piecing together modules that final assembly can be done in 3 days (vs 4 months for an aluminum plane).

The plane in the background is the  Boeing 747 Large Cargo Freighter (LCF), Dreamlifter). Itis a wide-body cargo aircraft. Constructed by intensive modifications to an existing Boeing 747-400, the Dreamlifter is used exclusively for transporting aircraft parts to Boeing from suppliers around the world.

Sweet! A romper room for the flight attendants!

I think I still have a bumper sticker around here that says "If it's not Boeing I'm not going"  It's a shame what's been done to our aviation/airline industry.
