Does anyone actually spend thousands restoring a Charger and leave the slant 6 in it?

Ghoste

I hope so, they don't all need to be RT clones or General Lee's.

A Slant Six '68 Charger, how cool! I'd suggest a full blown restoration. :yesnod:

Yes, that would be me. My first car was a 69 R/T, so I know what that's like already.

Thanks,

Technically, how can it be "restored" without the original engine? After changing the engine its "modified"

And yes if I had a six banger charger it would stay a six. Thats just me, a 6 cyl charger is rarer than a hemi, more desirable...no, worth more money...no. But you hardly ever see a 6 in a Charger.

Some or most of you know i put a /6 in my old '69 Charger 500 and it was cool to pop the hood at car shows and see people look at the engine and then the vin number back and forth about 5 times.  It was nice to get 22 mpg with the price of gas today.  But, after having a 440 Charger, then going to the /6, it sucked!  I would rather have a V-8 Charger over the leaning tower of power.   :Twocents:

jeryst

Just my  :Twocents:, but if I were going to buy a Charger, and I was faced with the choice of a 383, 318, and /6 that were all the same price, I would go with the 383, and I think most people would as well, so the market would be pretty slim if you spent a lot of money restoring a /6 and ever wanted to sell it.

b5blue

Not if you already have/had a 440 426 400 383 340 and a 318. The slant six is a very good engine I would not even hesitate. Not all want a Charger just for pounding pavement, some cruise, B Bodys are excellent road cars in stock configuration. I've put 450-500 miles a day on mine and loved every minute. Nowadays the rarity of a low production Charger that did not get a transplant is very appealing. How many can there be left?

yeah me too  :coolgleamA:

Me three if I could find one also

Add me to that list too. Back in the early '80's, my best friend bought a '73 from a dealership with a slant 6 and a 3spd on the floor. It was a old man's car that got traded in. He tossed some Cragar SS mags on it, with big fat tires, and most people thought it was a v8 car. With gas prices being what they are, what better way to have a cool ass car with good gas milage for cruising the back roads or longer trips with.

Sure, I wouldn't mind racing you G-man :nana:

Seriously though, my daily driver Ramcharger has a 400 and I'm currently getting 7-8 miles per gallon. It's good that work is only 10 miles away. A round trip is only a little short of ten dollars a day. I do love driving it though.

The 68 will be my daily driver once it's reliable. The fuel savings will be nice, but just driving it will be heaven. My 69 was always breaking down and I could never rely on it to get me somewhere AND back again. It took me 13 years to get another charger, and I'm going to love it. I've even got a sure grip for the 7 1/4 rear!

Thanks,

Here are a few '68s that have been on the 'bay ......

redfourjohnd

Was the red one in the pic you posted from Reno? There was one up for sale from there years ago I wish I would have bought. It was only $3000 or something.

Missing that one was one of the main reasons I bought my current Charger. I am glad I waited, I like the four speed better. I believe the reno car was an automatic. It's been a while though.

6bblgt, got your e-mail. I'll register my car on your site. Don't have anything but the VIN sadly.

Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply (been busy with the holiday stuff), but I would fit into that crowd.  Here is some pictures of mine waiting for me for its turn at the resto knife (rusty underneath, so the remains of a 318 parts car will be used to fix it).  Since I already have plenty of other big block project Chargers to play with, this one will be brought back to stock as a trailer queen in due time.....

Exactly why I am keeping mine stock.  How many Mopar car shows do you go to and see stock big block Chargers being shown?  Now in comparison, how many stock /6 Chargers do you see there?  Factory rarity is one thing that Mopar people tend to pay attention to.  One thing that I have yet to see someone do at a car show is to have a full year set of Chargers with every avaliable engine/transmission option lined up back to back in a display.  Sure, if you go to the Nats there might be a set spread out over all of the cars, but not in one spot, together.  I thought I might see that at the 2006 national TDC meet in Jefferson City, Mo but it just did not happen (not their fault BTW).  Another thing that I have not seen is a year by year set of /6 Chargers displayed together either.  It would be nice if that was to happen.....

So cool to see another one! Is that the original front bench seat?

Yes, it is the orginal interior, but I am not sure about the inserts in the seats (could have been added by a previous owner).  The fendertag coded it for charcoal interior with a bench seat.  It orginally had a black vinyl roof, but that was gone by the time I ended up with it.  I was not lucky enough to get the correct buildsheet, but did get three others under the seats (all in pieces).....
