Is there anywhere to get a replacement heat and AC controller for a 72? I pulled mine out and it has been hacked. Almost nothing left but the face of it. I intend to get the heat and AC working again. But, I need a working control unit. Anyone repopping these?

need the SWITCH or the housing ?

housing to 71/72 is quite hard to find. 73 and laters is easier to find them NOS

so, only used.

New switches are available. At least 73 and laters. what I think they are the same than 71/72s. Not sure though

Thanks Nacho, I need the whole thing. Mine has been cut up for some reason??  :rotz: The one I have has the fan switch on the top of the slide selectors, and OFF is in the center. Just like the one in your link.

I dont even know if the one I have is original to the car. I think this car may have started to be parted out before the previous owner saved it. The body was to clean not to save it. It has been a California desert car as far back as the previous owner could track it.

My 73 had one like this one:

Do you know if the two styles are interchangeable? They look like the plugs are the same. I am trying to remember if my 73 had a 2 or 3 speed fan motor? This one only has a 2 speed fan.

both works the same, juts need to match the blower lever plug what is very diff between both... oh and the control light, being that 73 and lates uses just one bulb and earliers uses 2. Not a big deal on that really.

Yes I noticed about the off position allmost in the middle, and thats what makes me thing about the switch control itself is not interchangeable

and not, is not 2 speeds is 3 speeds. lever switch has 3 position, but that doesn't mean is an OFF click and then two speeds clicks. the three positions are low, mid and high. The ON and OFF psoition is at the control lever, so once you turn on the AC or Vent or whatever function, the power will be running directly to blower by the speed set at the blower lever switch.

In fact the system turns on in LOW speed by default if you unplug the blower lever switch since the power to blower from control is spliced into the low speed wire when simply turning ON. Then setting the speed, blower will get the power from the less resistance selection ( Ohms law ), even still getting power from low.

Heater controls are the ones where OFF is at blower switch, but they are in fact 4 positions... off, low, mid and high.

Is just my opinion that if you get the chance to get the right control, why not to keep the original 72 setup ? diff story will be if you don't have the chance, but at least RIGHT NOW there is one on line ;)

Not to hijack, but is there a way to open the vent but not turn on the blower??

Nacho-RT74

no vents on AC/Heater cars. Air has to be blowed in on these.

Just posible to open vent on cars with pull handles like this:
