It finally crept up above freezing today for the first time in a long time. Right now it's 32.9 degrees F with no wind and no precip but they're saying we might get freezing rain tonight and then it should warm up tomorrow. So far though, not too shabby. I'm finally getting acclimated to the cold (now that it's going to warm up). Had time to go out and rake up all the leaves and mow the dormant grass/leaves in dry weather which is a pretty rare event. Ran the mower until it was out of gas so I hopefully don't have to fool with that thing too much next spring.

That's what I do, every year.. Run them dry..

But, I have a buddy that insists on leaving the fuel in the carb and putting it away, then every Spring (or Fall in the case of the snowblower) he pulls the carb off, cleans it thoroughly and fires it up (2 hours later).. Then calls me to brag about how GOOD it's running... In the meantime, I've already turned the fuel on, pulled the cord once and fired mine over... Yet his way is better.

Screw that.. A little bit'o Stabil and run it dry and it's as good as new in the Spring.. I've never had a problem with dry seals, gummed up jets, or stuck floats..

Yup, then I take whatever is left in my gas can and pour it into the pickup so I can fill the can with fresh gas in spring. This cold snap around here really has people scrambling. One guy I know had two of his bathrooms freeze up. I overheard a guy in the store a few days ago asking how to get to the light rail stop because his "radiator had froze" (and I almost told him he's got bigger problems but decided to let it go). I had to jump start my neighbor's car today and noticed a large mound of corrosion on the neg terminal, but she was going to get a new battery amyway. And the neighbor beside her has a skating rink in front of his house now because something is leaking. :eyes: What a mess.
