You guys in the know, can you recommend a primer and paint for a daily driver that will A: stay mostly in use  B: be done section by section  C: be best for being constantly re-repaired as crap happens? I'm not worried about my car ever attaining a stunning finish. It will be dinged and scratched, banged buy shopping carts and God only knows what. Durability and being repairable are two things I don't even know one paint has? I was leaning to "Rust Bullet" as I have surface rust issues (for priming) but I have no feedback on how it overcoats. The color would be 1970 B5Blue and a tiny bit off would be no big deal to me. I would rather have to pay more for a quality pair of products than then scrimp and build in a mess. Any idea or input/opinion is welcome! Thanks as I am a newbie to paint work/rust repair but have some good friends to help.

If you are talking about driving while its still in primer, you definately wanna use an epoxy primer. You don't want to leave a car in urethane or polyester primer in the elements because they soak up water/moisture like a sponge. The only thing about epoxy, is, it is not UV resistant. But its the safest primer to have it in while driving it around.

As far as the paint, you probably need to use base coat/ clear coat. With that being said if your planning on doing a lot of touch up and blending, you need to go with a good name brand base, so the color match will be more accurate. Alot of your cheaper lines of bases (ie; omni, nason, etc.) are known for there color matches to not be exact.

Well after seeing the other guy here with his clear coat sagging and dripping all over I am kind of apprehensive of clear coat but, I have friends who will help with the shoot. Thanks for the tips, I learned 20 years ago about needing a quality paint so I'm set not to "cheap out" on supplies.  :2thumbs:

GLook into Matrix single stage urethane enamel, it's toughest finish I have used,i painted my daily driver few years ago, driving during construction on gravel road for a year, still till this day not a chip. I own a shop and would never hesitate to use Matrix paint and clear on any car,$100k car or $1000 car, I've been using it for nearly 10 years and have never run into any problem
