ok guys, need some swaying opinions.. i have an 09 orange 6 speed R/T challenger, practically new with 2500 miles on it, sticker was $36,200. i have been offered $32,500 by the local dealership to trade it in towards a new purple R/T classic, loaded like i want it, with a sticker of $37,410. so i will be paying $5000 out of pocket to get the purple with white stripe. am i crazy?  i see 09's with similar miles on them going for 29-30k on ebay, so the amount i'm being offered isn't the issue. i would pay exactly sticker for the new one, so that's not an issue either. it comes down to how much i like purple versus orange i guess lol. would you pay $5000 to get the color you really want? it's the price of a good paint job i guess. lol. opinions welcome

Id say its worth it. Figure your looking at that for a good paint job as you said, so why not?? Your not only getting a new paint job, your getting 2500 miles less. Try to haggle a bit more maybe?

Yes.........

You live once and it's ticking away every second, if you can swing it, do it.

Personally for me, I keep talking myself out of buying a new challenger and then I'll see an orange one driving down the road and I fall back in love with the idea of buying one.

There are plenty of orange ones around.  I think it was summed up best back in 1970 when Dodge told us the Plum Crazy Challenger is no shrinking violet.

BBKNARF

Yes I would go for it,  :yesnod:  but you will not see that color sometime after the new year, and double check if it will come with white stripes.

No s&^t, that is mostly all I see.

I would dump the orange one in a minute for the Plum Crazy car.  That new blue one out is sweet too.  Good thing I am poor, and do not need to make such decisions.   :icon_smile_big: Good luck Travis.

I like purple over orange, but I voted to keep the orange one. I wouldn't want to spend $5000 & deal with all the BS for a color change.

i think you can do better, as slow as cars are selling now after the clunker program is gone they should be having rebates on everything but the SRT model, your '10 should be a demo only for that mileage so it stills qualifies for the rebate

+1 and who's the dealer?
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

69charger2002

local dealer i know the people. $32k is top dollar for my car, and with a trade in value like that, i can't expect them to come off sticker too. hey they have to make money too. It's gonna be hard for them to mark up an 09 R/T from $32000.. they are doing it for the new car sale more than anything.. and yes by the poll i mostly had my mind made up, but i wanted to see if the majority on here could talk me out of it, and convince me that i was an idiot for basically spending $5k for a color change.. the 2500 miles versus 0 has nothing to do with it. i'll have 2500 on the purple one in the same fashion. it will be nice to have a factory sunroof instead of an aftermarket one, and the remote start and push button start with the computer in the gauges wil be cool too. i am purposely giving up the sound group and the 6 speed as options that i had on the orange one..but judging by the results i'm not crazy, and i'm going in on monday with the order. the weird thing i'll be challenger-less for 6-8 weeks while mine gets built. of course they want the trade now while it's still easier to sell. i'm keeping my custom wheels of course

see if they can do a search for a stick with the options your wanting on the new one :icon_smile_question:

oh i could order another stick, i am purposely ordering an automatic. i only drive in baton rouge traffic, believe it or not the stick gets old, and as cheesy as this sounds, i really want the remote start that is only available on an automatic.. lastly, the most ridiculous part of all, is of course that the 6 speed adds yet another $995 to the sticker price.. which is just foolish.

by the way Magnumcharger, THANK you SO MUCH for the pics of a purple challenger with the stripe/no stripe options. you have no idea how much that helped!

I would hold off. New cars are not selling and Dodge needs to come off their over priced stickers alot.

Ghoste

That's the dealers though.  The company doesn't (can't) tell them what price to accept on the vehicles.

69charger2002

well holding off is two fold, and in the end does me no good. sticker on the challenger is $37410 on the one i want. let's say they gave it to me for $35000.. well you and i both know instead of $32,500 for my orange 09, all of a sudden it's worth $30,100.. which is truthfully all they go for on ebay right now anyway.. the actual dealership where i BOUGHT my 09 across the city only wants to give me $29000 for the challenger to trade in on a new one. i think $32k+ is unbeatable for a USED car that was $36,200 new

Did I read that right?? You say your Orange one has an aftermarket sunroof???  If so get rid of that time bomb NOW!!!

69charger2002

yes i added the sunroof, well it's a "dealer add on" but like everything else it is subbed out nowadays. it was $1200 dollars, not some cheap $200 sunroof like back in the 80's. 95% of people have no clue it's not factory. it has a 5 year warranty, so it's not as big of a deal as you might be thinking..
today is d day, and believe it or not i'm still on the fence i am supposed to go to the dealership at 5:30 this afternoon and turn in the orange one/order the purple one. any last thoughts???

Congrats on your new ride! Those new Challengers are one of the nicest looking cars on the road. It's like buying a turn-key resto mod without the insane expense.

My thoughts exactly!
And, as an added bonus...there's a warranty....and I got 22mpg (US) on my drive home....with cruise control on.

I stopped by the dealer where I bought my 2006 Charger SRT8 just to see what they had on the lot, and they just got in a Plum Crazy Challenger SRT8. It was REALLY hard to walk away from that car! Plus, it had a manual in it, which I hear goes quite well with the 6.1L HEMI. I personally find a manual trans car more fun to drive, and I have owned several over the years. But, my Charger is paid off, so not having a car payment again made walking away a little easier, but only a little!

But now you have all that money from the car payment burning a hole in your pocket!

If I do anything with the extra money, it will be to find a nice 2nd or 3rd gen Charger to park next to my SRT8, and that is after I have a new garage built.
