Okay you all, a friend of mine got a PS3, but he has a HDMI tv set, now the question is, how do you hook up a PS3 to one of those and get itt oplay right? We tryed the HD cable only, and then the RCA hook up and we can not get the tv screen from black to anything esle. We tryed the HDMI-1 set to PS, Game, and even DVD and we can not get it to work at all.

For you all that have PS3 hook up to HD tv sets and working, can you please help out here on how you did it?

the HDMI cable is all you need to hook it up to the TV, assuming it has HDMI inputs. My TV occasionally doesn't detect the HDMI devices, so I have to unplug the TV power chord and "reset" it.

Did you try go thru the  inputs on the remote? All my tv's have a channel selctor for the inputs and you have to put the tv on the tight one...Like if your HDMI is input 3, you go to input channel 3 and so on...

I tryed that, nothing at all. I went though all the HDMI stuff, the channels 1 to 4, the AV ones as well and nothing is happen is going on with the ps3 thing. I tryed with the AV cord, even with the HDMI cord only also and then one time with both hook up and nothing at all but a black screen. I'm really starting to this this PS3 is no good the way it looks and runs.

Heres what you do:

with the playstation off press and hold the on button,
The PlayStation will beep and after 3 seconds it will beep a second time
the PS3 will cycle through the settings until the HDMI defult comes on
use the controller to accept the settings
if it is the first time the control has been used with the PS3 connect the controller to the ps3 using the cord.

Hope that helps

Well there is one silght problem with what you just said bud, I can't even get the ps3 to come on my screen  :brickwall: at all. So how can I adjust something when I can't get to that step in the first place? :shruggy:

I have set the setting on the tv to HDMI-1 and turn the system on but yet the tv screen doesn't change at all. It just says HDTV-1 at the top left corner in a silver gray color box is all and the screen goes black and remains like that until I press the tv remote. I even tryed the ps3 on a smalltv the has all the hook ups as well and still nothing as each setting on the screen was the same color (nothing there). I'm honestly thinking this ps3 isa piece of junk.

Make sure the switch on the backside is turned on. I got mine two years ago and set it up with the included RCA cables. I had also plugged in the HDMI cable. I then went into settings and changed the output mode to HDMI. It gives a certain amount of time to save the settings or it will revert back.

I remember I was getting pissed cause it wouldnt come on. I then realized I hadnt turned the backside switch on.... :slap:

The system is turn on with the switch in the back, I also did like the member said to do above and all that did was turn the system on and thenone the 3rd beep the system turn it self back off. I can not get no system logo or minu to even come on the screen at all not even with the av's or the HDMI cable hook up. I even unplug the tv set and plug it back in and still no dang luck. I spent afew hours looking up how to connect the ps3 before posting on here and I followed it all and still nothing. I am really starting to bet it's a defected system now.

Landonsrt

If your getting the green light when you turn the system on, I dont think its defective.

I PM'd you.

MoparManJim

I'm getting the green light okay, but the 3rd beep the system turns off though. I stunt a game in to see how it sounds when readin gand I don't think the thing even kick in either and if it did then these new systems does it so low that you don't hear them kicking in like the ps2 and ps 1 did.

Landonsrt

When it beeps fast three times, that indicates its shutting down. You can't really tell the difference in the system by the disc running. It works pretty quiet. I guarantee its your source with the tv that's the issue.

Landonsrt

1 beep = System on
2 beeps = System busy
3 Beeps = System shutting down

Sir, I am only trying to help, although I am glad after such as short time I am your "Bud". To clarify my first statement, I went through a similar problem on the Thanksgiving Holiday, I brought my PlayStation home but forgot my HDMI cable. I had to use regular cables and as a result, blank screen. I followed the steps which this website instructed me to and the system reset to the desired output. If this does not work then I am sorry, but do not criticize me for trying to help.

Yes, you a friend to me as in bud, 2nd I'm not criticizing you. I was just stating a fact about my end was all. Trying to work with a minu screen in which I can not even get to kinda won't help me out   now will it. I'm not sayingwhat you is false or anything, it's just that this ps3 system of mine isn't letting me get to that said part is all. I do thank you for all the help you and the others have been so far. I am going to go out later on today in the evening and get anew hd cord and also a av cord as well though for a ps3 and see if that does anything. But I tryed the reset trick and no luck at that it seems. So I figure I will try new cords to see if that really is the issue at hand   . The cords I have here doesn't seem to have a brand name on them when i check them out afew minutes ago.

ok...let me go back to the beginning. Lemme ask a couple of questions which might seem kinda dumb, but nevertheless:

1) are you using a HDMI cable to hook it up to the TV?

2) If not, what kind of cables are you using?

3) If you're using different cables, are they YBPB (or something like that). If that's the case, then your TV needs to be set to the YBPB input, not HDMI.

4) I could be wrong, but "normal" RCA cables won't work with the PS3.

1) did try that and nothing worked.
2) I was using a top of the line HDMI cable. Nothing worked
3) I just got back in from town from buying a $20.00 RCA PS3 cable that was only designed for a PS2 and PS3. Tryed them and nothing work.
4) I thought the same thing about the cables that my friend and I both got in the box with the system could possibly be the issue but with the newer one I just bought today that is for the Ps2 N 3 and yet it doesn't work either. I am reall laying towards the system being the issue now.

Well, an update, I called the place where the system came from, told them what my issue was.

Told them that I couldn't even get the ps3 minu on my screen at all (rca or HDMI way) and they said to bring the system back and they will take a look at it and see what the issue is, and if it is in the system they'll give me a new one. The lady ask me like you all did and I answer her the same answers as I did you all and even she got stumpped on what the problem is.

Now you would think a brand new ps3 (that is for ps3 systems) cord from the factory to the store then to my place would work and get the minu on the tv screen but nope noda.

So now I have to return a ps3 cable to the store as well now.

Hi bud, no need to apologize. I also did what you mention to me also about the system and it didn't work either, but thanks for trying to helpa friend out

Yea, I do belive the system was previsly owned/ used.  When I take the system back as I have papers here, I'm going to have them hook it up and see happens for them. If they get it working I'm going to have then show me just what all they did to get the dang thing working and what settings they have there tv set set on as well. Because I even watch afew youtube clips last night on how to hook one up in case I was doing something wrong and yet everything they did I did but the differents is I couldn't get this one working right is all.

Landonsrt

I would say that might be a reason it was traded in or sold. With everything mentioned here, it should have worked. I think the PS3 is working but someone might have been using a different video source and it  wont change. Or its just broke.

I dont have DSL at my home. One day I took it to my parents to do an update. I forgot it was set on HDMI. My parents did not have an HDMI capable tv. I had to take it all the way back to my house and reset it to the other component cable to operate on their tvs.

Dont take this as a sign that PS3's suck. They dont! I love my Bluray feature and awesome game play and graphics. Dont know what I would do without it!

Not to worry you two. I once played one at another friends place, that is kinda where I got hook on it alittle. But with the winter getting hyere I figure I would get back into gaming alittle here and there as I kinda been out of for afew years (5) on the consol systems.

My PS3 won't show up on my screen when I use a high dollar HDMI cable. I have to stick with the one that came with the system.

This one didn't come with one as I know of. Plus the HDMI cable I have is a low dollar one not a high grade one and it still won't work with the system. I went out and bought a top name brand rca PS3 N 2 cab;e that was designed for these systems and that didn't even work either. And you would think it would do the trick.

I went to walmart and bought one for my PS3 for $25. Doesnt really matter if its high grade or not. PS3's dont come with HDMI cables.
