Air Grabber solenoid question

I have two questions about the air grabber solenoids.

How do you test them to make sure they work? How much are they going for? I have not seen one for sale so I assume they are hard to come by.

Thanks

Hemidoug

I'm not even sure what their function is. Do you know what it is used for? I've never had mine hooked up, I've always gone directly to the switch, bypassing the solenoid.

It suppose to bleed off the system pressure when you shut off the car.

So what you are saying is that it is normally open (no power) and closed when power is applied. I would hook up a hose to it and blow through it with power off, then try again when power is applied. That would test it out. As far as how much they go for, I've never seen one being sold. You could probably find something that would do the same thing, but not look the same. Do you know if the same thing was used in 70 RR and GTX?

For others, here is what I wrote on moparts.

I have never taken mine out but I would assume that it is just a 12v, single wire thing that goes to ground through the case. If so, hook a battery, negative to case positive to wire, and suck or blow through it. Then unhook it and do the same thing. I would imagine that it is closed when power is on, but, again, I have not dealt with this specific solenoid. Or, if it is a push thing like on the carb, you should be able to see it move when energized. The whole thing is there is a rod inside it and a coil around it that magnetizes and moves the rod. Simple.

They are on ebay every once in a while. I can't remember the price but nothing is cheap. Kim

Original solenoids show up on ebay every now and then and can get quite expensive. There is a guy who sells an electric solenoid that replaces the original vacuum ones and he sells them on ebay. Do a search like "air grabber" and if he is auctioning one off it will show up in the search.

I have see that auction many times and I would rather hold out and pay a little more to have an original one. I have watched for an original oneon ebay but I have never seen come up for auction so im not sure how much they go for.

X-pensive, seems like all A/G-Ramcharger parts are :(
