I'm getting ready to change the oil for the 1st time since acquiring my 1970 Charger R/T,  it is a factory 440 4 bbl. engine with automatic.  Question is:

How much oil should I add to the crank case with a filter change.  (I bought anew MOPAR filter from the ex DODGE dealer)

I plan on using SHELL Rotella 15 - 40 wt  is that wt oil sufficient?  I bought some gallon jugs of it.

Thanks in advance.

5 quarts.  Current Rotella oil (grade CJ) on the bottle has a reduced zinc and phoshate package for low emission diesels.  It has more Zn and P than the gas engine oils, but part of that is because the diesel oils tend to have more detergency which tries to "clean off" the protective coating.   So they also add more Zn and P to combat that.     The jury is still out, but I am not planning on using it.

A good off the shelf oil with the right additive package for a flat tappet engine is Valvoline VR-1 20W-50.

A 70 uses 6+ quarts. Read the sticky on oil in this section for some good oil advice.  :2thumbs:

myk

I've been running 10W30 Castrol Synthetic.  Car seems to like it...
