I love to admire original cars - and especially ones with history!! ...and I think its awesome to see such survivors maintained and preserved for 45 years.

However with that being said, this price is not realistic. Obviously it seems they may not want to part with it for any "realistic" price.  :Twocents: :Twocents:

That's fine with me.

That mauve Charger was probably close to $4,500 new in 1966.

So how many of us have gone out and bought a brand new Challenger SRT-8 for $45,000, to just stash away in the garage without driving it, hoping it will be worth a cool 10 million in 43 years?

I'd be 68 years old by then :o

A better question might be, how many people will actually get 10 million for a Challenger SRT8 in 43 years.
I notice that so far no one has been willing to place that one million dollar starting bid but there are still 6 days to go.  There is likely someone hoping to snipe it in the last 15 seconds for no more than 1.25 million or something.

FastbackJon

Any one of us could place the 1 Mil starting bid. Since the reserve is not met at that price, the bid doesn't really matter.

NONE since they are going to make a better 6.4 Hemi. It's not only bigger and faster, but gets getter fuel mileage.  :shruggy:

I don't think it's fair to make the in 43 years comparison. Stuff in the new millenium just won't scale like stuff in the 18th and 19th centuries for many reasons , such as the quality of products going soooo far down.

Talked with Keith at the Dodge Charger Registry meet here in Wisconsin last year.... he was really interested in my (not yet done) citron gold/white interior 66 Charger almost as much as I was interested in The Ghost....  he told me that Chrysler Historical had previously offered them 2.1 million for the car, and that he and Cora thought about it but turned it down at that point.

That car is beautiful,  and although he let us in it....  wouldn't even consider letting me take it around the park... ;D

The wife loved that car too and has since been on my butt to get my car done.

So get off yer butt and get busy....if Mamma ain't happy...you won't be either   :nana:

I could not fathom turning down 2.1 million. I guess if you have enough not to justify it and you really love the car, then its not that important.

IMHO a modern Chally could very easily be worth $10 million in 43 years.

The question is, what will the $10 million be worth?

I found this interesting...

http://www.mymopar.com/6268opcodes.htm

Option code 586 -    Simulated Mag Wheelcovers (n/a with Hemi)

Maybe the dealer put them on this mauve car? Would have to see the build sheet or IBM card to confirm. I'm also not positive this is a '66 code, since the link provided is for 62-68 codes.

Interesting.  Don't Hemi cars come with 15" wheels?  Anyone notice the black painted LCA?  They want $5,000,000.  I found this on Craigslist.  You could get 75 of these for that price:

the biggest wheel available in 66 was a 14 inch wheel

that guy is pretty proud of the 4 speed transmission, mentions it twice.. :scratchchin:

Yea, and most RoadChickens were all 4-speeds too. People forget, Automatics cost more back in THE day.

I don't think he's trying to sell it.

Based on my inside knowledge of the Chrysler Historical Museum, I find this offer hard to believe. Not impossible, but very unlikely - even in the [past] previous economic good times.

Also, if the Museum put out such an offer, it would certainly be done in writing.

I suppose I would have to be a legitimate (and qualified) buyer to be provided such information. Which I am not. :'(  So I guess its a moot point.

The value is what someone is willing to pay.

With that kind of price who would ever be happy with it? I would rather have Geno's for 65K and DRIVE IT!!! You could rebuild it over and over with the money you would spend on this one.

Whoever winds up with that car, at whatever price, they will be VERY happy with it.   It probably won't be all about the money spent, whatever that turns out to be.   It certainly won't be about not being able to drive it.   It will be about owning the most original first generation Hemi Charger on the planet.   With the color, it is unrepeatable.  It's lightning in a bottle.  It's the top of the heap.
