Can anyone recommend a good wireless router?

Can anyone suggest a good wireless router?  My wife just got me a lap top computer for Christmas and I would like to have a wireless router so I do not have to keep unplugging the ethernet cable from this computer so I can use my lap top.  I know there are different ones out there but since I have zero knowlege of computer stuff, I figured I'd get a better response by throwing it out on here as to what I should look for.

Thanks. :2thumbs:

I've had great results with G-link until I got to this address and have the DSL line. Nothing but nightmares...but DSL groups have their own wireless and have had NO problems with it. It's been great and fast enough for the kids to play WOW...lot's of bandwith use with that, and still be online with one plugged in directly and another surfing wireless. So if the company your with offers one...go with it.

I have had a Linksys for like 7 years and no problem.

I'm running a Cisco (Linksys). My computer is hardwired to it and the wife's desktop and laptop are remote. Works great.

Call your provider because they are certain to have a list of recommendations. For both my business and home, Linksys has been 100% dependable and hacker secure.

Nothing is 100% hacker secure, but I agree Linksys makes good units. That's what I've been using in the Netherlands as well with good results.

Id just go with a Linksys router.

If you need some help setting things up (security wise and what not) just have some snow cones ready and ill drive on over...seriously. Love road trips in the Mopar.

Thanks Arthur, I should have been more complete and add that I use multiple security measures, firewalls, anti virus, blockers and security updates in addition to the quality Linksys. :icon_smile_cool:

For my business's very specific requirements the Linksys plays a key role in being hacker safe (but not proof). Not all their models provide the same level of security.

For the poster, you have install, use and update ALL the security you can, in addition to the right router that fits your needs. Therefore call the provider to know what best meets your security needs. :Twocents:

I had a Linksys as well till I got Verizon FIOS.  My PC was in the basement & my girls PC & laptops were upstairs on the second floor....reached with no problems.  Always had a good signal

It was the Wireless "G" with Speedbooster.

:iagree:  Linksys makes a great router - and switch for that matter.  I had them when I had RoadRunner (cable) and Verizon DSL.  But then I switched to Verizon FIOS and they supplied me with a D-Link.  Outstanding coverage but it would't work with a switch, I actually had to use the Linksys router to feed the rest of the house (cat 5-wired).
Several weeks ago I just got Verizon FIOS TV and they switched the router again because the router also controls the interactive menu on the TV.  They changed the D-Link to an ActionTec router.  So far, no problems and it works fine with my Linksys switch to feed other parts of the house.
BTW, wireless is great but cat 5 overall is faster than your wireless can handle.  That's why if I'm at my desk at home I use the cat 5.

Actiontec is the router I have as well with FIOS....no problems with range on this one as well...

Agree with Linksys routers....my home network uses one and it's worked great. Normally it's only running three devices (laptop, desktop and handheld) but I've had as many as three laptops, a PS3 and my PC hooked up at once with no problems.
