Is swapping one out worth the effort for the performance gain?

My set up - most people start were I finished

440 original 8.2 pistons and bore
weind action plus intake
750 Vac secondary Proform main body with QF dual metering blocks
Phenolic 4 hole .500 thick spacer
Indy 452 reconditioned heads with oversized valves with springs rated to .509 lift
Summit cam 272/284 .465/.488 installed straight up
Headman full length 1 7/8 headers w straight 2.5 dual exhaust & Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers
windage tray
MP electronic ignition w orange box
FireCore 50 plug wires & NGK4 plugs
timing is set @ 18 so total timing of 35 comes in by 3K

rebuilt 727 with Turbo Action manual valve body
Torque converter out of an 72 Imperial

4.10 sure grip

Com petion Enginering shocks front set @ 80\20 & rear 50\50
MP pinion snubber

Not sure what car weighs but will guess 3900 with me in it

I was looking at the TCI break away that stalls between 2400 & 2600 or MRE that stalls between 2800 & 3000.

So is it worth the effort to swap converters out? The TCI is about $100 more than the Mancini offering.

It is worth it but to fully realize the gains you should really call one of the custom converter makers like Dynamic and give them your combo.  Of course that'll cost a lot more but there is a very "get what you pay for" in torque converters.  That said, the ones you are looking at will certainly make a difference.

Dynamic makes a nice 10in street converter that would work excellent for you  :2thumbs:

green, my charger was set up real close to what you have, although i had 3.55s as opposed to 4.10s, i actually had the mopar middle stall out of the mp parts book, flash stalled to 2400 and i felt that it worked real well-espeacially considering the price, if i had a little more cash to invest id take rons suggestion and get a dynamic, flash to like 3000 and fell like a stocker around town

I agree Andy and what Ron said is what I will use for my baseline. But damn they are double what Mancinis is asking for a similar convertor. For a low HP car like mine I wonder if I realy need the best?
