heya fellas, i'm new to this board, i have a 1970 charger i'm restoring and i need to know if a 383, 400, or 440 would be the best engine for a 6-71 blower, i want to build around 700 hp but i'm not sure which block to buy, the car was originally a 383 but that engine and automatic tranny are long gone, what would ya'll suggest???  also im going to make it a standard.....:scratchchin:

Blown70

You can handle 700 with a stocker,, IMO... you may want to have it checked... past 700, yea, you will at some point pick up the crank, rods, and pistons off the ground in a huge ball of mess.

Aftermarket I would recommend if you go past that mark, for sure.

Any of those blocks can work, more of what you would like out of it... You will have plenty of snap with the huffer, but why a 6/71?

Have fun...

theyre all 2 bolts, some after market blocks are 4 and there is also 4 bolt caps you can have machined into your block.  im glad you converted!!!

Yep, no such thing as a "Low Perf, Oval port" engine here, as ALL the Chrysler Big Blocks came with the good sh*t until 1973 or so...(Steel cranks, Good rods, etc.)

I still can't figure out though how a BBC can sell for over $1500.00 and a 440 "HP" engine won't?? :shruggy:

I'd go with the 440 simply because it's the biggest displacement..Then, add a stroker kit for around 500 C.I....700 HP should be within easy reach, but like mentioned above, keep a close eye on that stock block and add as much aftermarket stuff as you can for strength...Welcome to the Darkside....MOPAR :2thumbs:
