Why all the histrionics?  Chrysler ruined the nameplate in '75 with that Cordoba thing, and then came the Omni for the killshot.  I'd rather they called it something else, but I'm not gonna trash it because of a name.

Can't we judge it on it's own merits?

I like the looks of the current model and what's not to like about a rear-drive Hemi V8?  Any other car in the same class is front-drive, which is a total drag.  Front drive cars were pushed on us because they're cheaper to produce, not because people wanted them.   It would be great in a two door, though, but that's what the Challenger is for.

I tend to disagree with this statement, economy and packaging efficiency were the primary reasons behind the front wheel drive trend in volume sellers over the past 25 years... Some folks in the snowbelt wouldn't even concider a rear wheel drive car and so the LXs are offered with All wheel drive...

In general I believe a discussion of the LXs and their competition would be a more productive thread...
Like that'll ever happen..

I'll go ahead and agree with your disagreement.  I often forget that most people don't care about cars, driving, and FWD/RWD in particular.  I guess I was trying to say that a V-8 RWD car (excepting pony cars and trucks) is something good that Chrysler has done in the last few years.  There's an SRT/8 at a local dealer that I'd love to get.  First thing I'd do is pull off the Charger emblems ...

The one constant that has remained throughout the new "Charger" discussions and arguments since 2005 is that the company, be it run by Americans, Germans or Italians, does not give a flying rat's A$$ how any of us feel about the legacy of the Charger name.

I tell you what, if Ford does put out that new fastback "69" style Mustang it will be just one more time Dodge will be sucking hind tit.    :rotz:   If you are going to bring back a legend and try and cash in on it, then G@# dammit bring it back.    :flame:

*excepting the legacy of the post third gen Chargers...
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

everyone keeps on saying that Chrysler should do the 99 concept car. They cannot do that car, it was a styling exercise based on the old LH platform. They were never going to do that car because they knew that the architecture was going to change ala the current LX car

that ain't it. I worked there in Design Office,  I know. those renderings are obviously someones idea based in speculation. The real car is pretty cool, 4 doors  not withstanding. Us older guys have to get over the fact that Chrysler isn't going to resurect a 69 Charger to suit our tastes, and this new Charger pretty well captures the flair of those earlier models and keeps with the current architecture. and yes the crosshair is still there, I hate it, but I take the rest of the design for what it is.

I think you need to be more descriptive. PLEASE!!!!

Lets all face the facts. Obama doesnt care about the buyer. Fiat doesnt care what anyone thinks but Fiat. We're just dirty fat americans to them. Dodge is soon to be going the way of Saturn and Pontiac. Its already started with the rebranding of the dodge trucks to just calling them RAM.

We just need to treasure what we have and face reality. Two doors are the Best. The Current Charger is a good platform. Some hate, others like. Its the same discussion over which is best- 1st, 2nd, 3rd generations.

Be happy that a Hemi still exists for now. Goodbye gas guzzling RWD V8 tire melting power. Hello VOLT!

I was more descriptive the last time we went thru this here a few months ago. I am loyal to Ma Mopar and as a retired employee  from D.O. I still can't reveal all that I have seen. Trust me, I hated the current car, even if it were called something else, I still didnt like the design execution. The new one, I think, is way cool. they listened to a lot of our concerns this time. give em a break, now more than ever, the pentastar need our support.

The white "rendition" is not incredibly bad...

Chrysler puts out the '99 concept as a production car and I might trade my 2008 300hp RWD 2-door FORD.

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
      a liberal, oh fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable!

Let me get this straight.
Someone posts "speculative" pictures of a another "proposed" future Charger rendering....and where is Brian Shawnessy now?

He had no problems chewing me a new arsehole for posting a rendering on this very topic not three months ago.

that thing is hideous! i actually dont mind the new Charger (the 09 one) and have actually considered getting one. I think it has nice lines and it is the closest thing to a Charger weve had since the 3rd gens :Twocents: I think if they would bring back a more retro front end and get ride of that cross hair pig snout thing it would be a decent car! leave the back door C pillar window alone, I like how it cuts back in on itself! it looks neat
