OK I'll bite...why is it like that?  I thought the race cars started as hardtops.  Did they do that for a partial windows down rule or something?

Whatever the reason,it didn't go from assembly line to Creative like that and I doubt it left that way either.

None of the Daytona or Superbird race cars had anything to do with street production processes.   They do not a VIN like a street car.   The race Superbirds built up as new cars for 1970 started out as a generic body pulled off the line and shipped from Chrysler to Nichels Engineering.   Nichels would then build it up as a Road Runner or Superbird depending on who it was going to.    Some other racing Superbirds were updated from existing '69 race cars.   The 7 car was a brand new race car for 1970.
