Dumb Question, does anyone know where my 4-speed belongs?

Ok, maybe not so dumb a question as implied but here goes.
I was going over some casting numbers for an "A" body rear axle I bought, so I thought while I was at it I'd see what was stamped on my 18 spline 4-speed in the 'Bird as well. I found a partial VIN stamp of "8G265940" It is a long tail shaft 18 spline 833 transmission. If I decoded this correctly it is from a 1968 St. Louis produced car.
Any way to tell it's origin, or at least what it came out of?
I also took a good look at the Dana 60 under there and I have the drain plug at the bottom of the case, was that 66-67 only feature as I've been told?

Are there anymore stampings by the partial vin? I have a '68 A833 in my garage (see photo) that should look like yours. The set of numbers PP833 refer to the manufacturer (New Process Gear Co.) and model; the numbers "2524" refer to the sequential calendar date (June 25th 1968) that Chrysler used (e.g., where "2164" would be July 1, 1967) and the numbers "0068" refer to the unit built that day.

That is pretty much all you will be able to tell from the tranny.

Yup - Early Dana

Dan, you were spot on.
the lower number is PP833   2509, then a 0165.
So I'm assuming again that this was built June 10, 1968 and was the 165th one built that day.
