My friend has a 65 mustang fastback with factory correct 4speed console... He has this huge armrest that sort of clamps onto the "rails" of the console.  It even slides forward and back.  on 2nd gen chargers, we have these "rails" too, it's those areas that kick up on the edges of the console door and top plate.

His is an armrest with compartment, but i'd think cupholders would be easy, maybe incorporated into an armrest type deal that actually would go high enough to rest your arm on....

here is something similar. his doesn't have all of the stuff down near the floor, but does have the armrest part that you can barely see in the pic...

and here is what my buddy has.. and get this, it's called the "humphugger"  stole my goddam nickname from college!

I'm really thinking about grabbing one in black and modding it for my console.

here is one for the ashtray and one that looks like it stays on a flat console top

I am most likely going to mold a piece that fits inside my console - so to hold drinks the console lid will be open - I will also have an aux cig lighter (cell phone charger) and my IPod jack in there...

Nobody is gonna be drinking in my car unless its a bottle of water... so even if it spilled when I nail the gas while ur drinking  it wont damage the car as water is clean. Since its a bottle it can roll around on floor for all I care.

I always have my coffee in a travel mug and on my lap or, dare I say, between my legs. There's clearance for the steering wheel.... Can't go to early morning gatherings with the guys for a car show or cruise without my coffee........  I make sure the back seat has plenty of towels laid down when Julie rides with Dad..

I have also yet to get a stereo that will let me plug in my iPhone for music, what are you using? Any recommendations?

How true!

This thread is good, this has been rolling around somewhere in the back of my mind since we intend to spend the entire summer in the Charger.
I used to have a sandbagged console cupholder, but it won't work on my Charger console...Maybe a custom-made one.

I remember a couple of years ago there was a seller on eBay, selling a cup holder just for 2nd gen chargers. You had to remove your ashtray and it mounted where the ash tray went. It held two cups. I looked it up but there wasn't any on  ebay, I guess they wasn't good sellers. Probaby wouldn't work in a console car anyways.

Found this old thread and was wondering if anyone ever found or come up with a good drink holder.  I did a little google search but saw the same things already listed.   Since my 70 RR has a bench seat I was looking for something adaptable for the ashtray but no luck. I don't want anything that is always in sight like at shows, or something that sits on the floor and collects the stuff that always seems to end up there.  I'm not looking to reinvent the wheel but if nobody already has made one I guess that will be my next project after I finish the see through valve covers.   I'm thinking of something mounted that I can slide in/out using the ashtray opening when needed but while keeping the dash appearance the same when not needed.  Sooo anyone got any pics of existing holders?

Set mine against the trans tunnel and passenger bucket... gotta drink some down as it will spill if full. Doesn't work with a passenger...

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for something like I had in my 73 way back when.

It was a black plastic cup holder that hooked on to the window and hung down inside.
It was the perfect shape too - matched the curve of the upper door pad - and it had a slot so your mug handle could slide in to it.
This was before travel mugs really existed. So, you actually took your regular coffee mug and stuck it in there.

I have two of
those exact holders in my jeep, want
me to pull the name off em for ya?

And what's this about coffee?? I might have heard that the space in between the radiator and the grill can hold about 4 six packs or so

Yes please.
I have seen the ones in Wally World and Canadian Tire, but not quite the same as I remember them. The one I had fit so well, it looked like it was designed for the car.

and I heard it was 4 12 packs. Oh, and any size bottle of liquor will snug right in to the fender in front of the doors on a second gen. just wrap 'em in a jacket... So I'm told. :P

The bottom says "Cobb's Enduro"

I have these too. They work but I don't like them. I was thinking a sandbag cupholder, if I could find one. the metal console of a second gen is really good for nothing while moving.

Wow, so many reply's for a cup holder! How necessities change over the years. I drove a 69 when it was brand new, no cup holder, not even a thought. They say, "necessity is the mother of invention" and it is.
This is what I am using, only works for no console cars. Have to be carefull, it will slide around. Have to balance the cup just right in it. But it works.

I picked up some cheap hang on the door cup holders from Auto Zone a few years ago when we did Power Tour in the 73. They worked very well, and are removable.
