Video Game Repair

Hey everyone...I didn't know if I should have posted this on the Classifieds thread or not, but here goes.

First of all, I live in Northeast Ohio, so that should rule out x amount of you. What I have are three classic, vintage stand-up arcade games; Centipede, and two Donkey Kongs. Each one of them has minor issues that prevent me from playing them, and being able to enjoy them. What I am looking for is a trade: I need someone to get my games up and running, and I will pay them with a HUGE discount on one of the Donkey Kong games. I don't need two. Video game sellers routinely sell Donkey Kongs, based on condition for anywhere from $1100-$2000. Both my machines are in excellent shape. Make a fair offer, and we can make this happen.

I will be moving to Detroit for work at the beginning of the year (reporting January 4th, 2010), and would love to take them with me. Please help. Thanks, Charger community. I know I can count on you all.

Two options (I also have a game, cocktail Crystal Castles).  First, there are a bunch of places on the web that show how to repair and they offer parts.  Second, what I was going to do was search craigslist for games, find someone who has a few for sale, and ask him who he uses. You might also ask at a bar but that might get expensive.  People who fix these things are not that common. Kim

Here are the dip switch settings for donkey kong

Here is the repair manual and schematic for donkey kong.  free download in PDF format

Now go forth and fix it...if it isn't the mother board, then you can fix it!!! May the force be with you.

I'd love to have an arcade game. Donkey Kong was awesome, but I think I was better at DK JR.  My favorite video game was TRON(it's really the only one I was good at...I was a pinball guy)

Centipede manual .PDF is here.

Have at it mister!

Thanks, guys...there IS a place around here that fixes them, The Pinball Shoppe in North Olmsted; it's where I bought the first two. The problem is, they are just a bit too far to come out to my house, and vice versa. I will eventually, be it in Cleveland or Detroit, probably have to bite the bullet and pay to have them fixed and sell one if I can't do a barter-system fix-and-trade dealio. I'll keep keeping on...thanks...if any o' you locals know anyone, just PM me...

P.S. Kansas?? As in Mafia? As in, "make me an offer I can't refuse"?? Damn...I thought N. Olmsted was far... :faint:

Been fixing and restoring Pinball machines and video games since 9th grade, unfortunately I live in NH so I can't just drop in. Figure out what the monitor is and buy a cap kit from one of the many arcade game parts sites. Probably a GO7 monitor.

Google groups is a good place to go and ask questions

Ive owned 15-20 machines in the past.  This is the only one I still own though.

Anyway, try KLOV forums.  There is a lot of arcade knowledge over there.  I have been able to fix any issue I have come across by reading posts or asking questions there.  If you were in Iowa I would offer to try and help you out but you're just a little too far.  Good luck.

Being familiar with cars and how values work in those circles, you can apply the same logic to Pinball machines. I suspect you are interested in middle 80's and newer games but regardless it varies widely with game title. If your not too picky you can go from $500 - $2500. Id say a decent condition late 80s and early 90s pin with good appeal would probably average around $1200. Mind you, this is private sale stuff, not "dealer" sales. Just like cars, dealers charge more.

If you are seriously interested I would be happy to work with you on finding a game. Just let me know. There is lots of stuff out there at a wide range of price points. Just knowing where to look, just like cars, can save or cost you.  :2thumbs:
