OK, I get the 8,500 miles has some value, unless it has been at a 1/4 mile at a time, but where are they getting the rest of the $920,000 from  :scratchchin:

They have been having some weird stuff pop up. Here is some guy claiming he believes he has the first mustang made/sold etc. with serial number 100212. He only wants $5,500,000 for his car. Imagine how much he would want for the car if he could actually prove it!

Who is doing the appraisels on these?  I'm guessing someone who appraises artwork too... The more you pay your appraiser the more your stuff is worth I'd imagine.

asking and getting, are 2 very different realities.

He's using ebay for exactly what it is , a cheap advertising tool

Even when it was top dollar for any high end Hemi car, I doubt this car was ever worth 4mil

I had heard they were offered 1mil for it years ago and turned it down

Ghoste

Since he has been offering it for sale for some months now, I tend to agree with Bill.

TeeWJay426

I figured it had to be the Bloomington ghost as well. Maybe if I hit the lottery.....

Heck, I wonder if Cora is even alive anymore? She'd have to be well into her eighties by now. Keith isn't exactly a kid himself. Good luck in this economy.

Frankly, whoever appraised it for 4 million should have his appraisers qualifications yanked. (even if it was done in 2007)

1 Mill is the starting bid with a reserve on the auction.

I'm willing to bet the reserve is around the 4 Mill price tag.

Speaking for myself alone... If it were my car... I would have turned it over to Chrysler when they made the offer. Not for the money, but for the simple fact that it is a museum piece, and that is exactly where it belongs. You have to know that sooner or later it will come to this anyway so...
Well, on the brighter side... there are a number of collectors out there who would love to have this vehicle in there collection... people with real money, that don't car about cost or today's economy. You know... the kind of guys that spend $3,000,000 dollars on a sports car and then drive it into a lake  Ok, maybe not those fools... but the fact remains that there are those with the means and the desire... so we shall see... Barrett Jackson is only 2 months away, why not wait until then to sell it? Those people have play money to throw around so you never know how high the bidding can go. Barrett Jackson is the only place he might get 1 Million. Then again not even original hemi wing cars are selling for 1 mil so I don't see this car bringing that.

I don't know why he keeps saying that. I've told him about Dean's mauve hemi car but he denied it. Always bugs me how people are told somewhere along the line that "x of their car are known to exist", and they quickly turn that around into "x were built".

I know of lots of mauve '66 Chargers by the way, we've had seven that I've known about just here in Spokane (the Lilac City) just in the last ten years.

I think he meant 2 hemi cars in that color, at least thats what dean explained to me. There are 3 mauve 66 hemi cars known to exist. Probably hundreds of them in small blocks.

TUFCAT

I couldn't tell which one made me sicker.... the blurriness of his pictures,  OR THE PRICE!!

Ghoste

If it wasn't the price, then it doesn't matter my friend.

GPULLER

I think the car is worth the asking price to someone.  Just like 11 million for a Hemi Cuda that someone had to have.
We saw the car at Mopars in the Park this past June in Farmington MN.  It was interesting to talk to Keith about the history of the car, unfortunately he is having some health problems and wants to get rid of some cars he owns.  He told me that the car was appraised at 4 million, he thought it should be worth at least million, Cora wants 5 mill.
I don't think the quality of the pictures on eBay is going to discourage someone from buying the car.  The car has been everywhere and in enough magazines people know the condition.
My wife and I each got to take turns in the drivers seat, I thought that was really cool.

lisiecki1

don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful car, I just don't think that particular ebay ad will generate that kind of money.  For that kind of money I think Barrett-Jackson would be a better idea than Egay.

Yopu're right Gpuller, it may be worth that to someone.  After all, Cora would pay 5 million for it and the appraiser would pay 4 million so Keith's price is a steal.  IF you are that one special someone who wants it one million dollars badly.  :D

Keith and Cora are still co-owners.  When I said that he thinks it should be worth at least a million, Cora thinks they should go for the 4 million plus.
All I know is... I aint got the million!

TUFCAT

I love to admire original cars - and especially ones with history!! ...and I think its awesome to see such survivors maintained and preserved for 45 years.

However with that being said, this price is not realistic. Obviously it seems they may not want to part with it for any "realistic" price.  :Twocents: :Twocents:

That's fine with me.

FastbackJon

That mauve Charger was probably close to $4,500 new in 1966.

So how many of us have gone out and bought a brand new Challenger SRT-8 for $45,000, to just stash away in the garage without driving it, hoping it will be worth a cool 10 million in 43 years?

I'd be 68 years old by then :o

"This was the dedication of the altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the princes of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold..." -- Numbers 7:84 KJV

Ghoste

A better question might be, how many people will actually get 10 million for a Challenger SRT8 in 43 years.
I notice that so far no one has been willing to place that one million dollar starting bid but there are still 6 days to go.  There is likely someone hoping to snipe it in the last 15 seconds for no more than 1.25 million or something.

FastbackJon

Any one of us could place the 1 Mil starting bid. Since the reserve is not met at that price, the bid doesn't really matter.

I don't think it's fair to make the in 43 years comparison. Stuff in the new millenium just won't scale like stuff in the 18th and 19th centuries for many reasons , such as the quality of products going soooo far down.

Talked with Keith at the Dodge Charger Registry meet here in Wisconsin last year.... he was really interested in my (not yet done) citron gold/white interior 66 Charger almost as much as I was interested in The Ghost....  he told me that Chrysler Historical had previously offered them 2.1 million for the car, and that he and Cora thought about it but turned it down at that point.

That car is beautiful,  and although he let us in it....  wouldn't even consider letting me take it around the park... ;D

I could not fathom turning down 2.1 million. I guess if you have enough not to justify it and you really love the car, then its not that important.

IMHO a modern Chally could very easily be worth $10 million in 43 years.

The question is, what will the $10 million be worth?

I found this interesting...

http://www.mymopar.com/6268opcodes.htm

Option code 586 -    Simulated Mag Wheelcovers (n/a with Hemi)

Maybe the dealer put them on this mauve car? Would have to see the build sheet or IBM card to confirm. I'm also not positive this is a '66 code, since the link provided is for 62-68 codes.

Interesting.  Don't Hemi cars come with 15" wheels?  Anyone notice the black painted LCA?  They want $5,000,000.  I found this on Craigslist.  You could get 75 of these for that price:

Option code 586 -    Simulated Mag Wheelcovers (n/a with Hemi)
Interesting.  Don't Hemi cars come with 15" wheels?  Anyone notice the black painted LCA?  They want $5,000,000.  I found this on Craigslist.  You could get 75 of these for that price:

that guy is pretty proud of the 4 speed transmission, mentions it twice.. :scratchchin:

ACUDANUT

Yea, and most RoadChickens were all 4-speeds too. People forget, Automatics cost more back in THE day.

I don't think he's trying to sell it.

Based on my inside knowledge of the Chrysler Historical Museum, I find this offer hard to believe. Not impossible, but very unlikely - even in the [past] previous economic good times.

Also, if the Museum put out such an offer, it would certainly be done in writing.

I suppose I would have to be a legitimate (and qualified) buyer to be provided such information. Which I am not. :'(  So I guess its a moot point.

The value is what someone is willing to pay.

With that kind of price who would ever be happy with it? I would rather have Geno's for 65K and DRIVE IT!!! You could rebuild it over and over with the money you would spend on this one.

Whoever winds up with that car, at whatever price, they will be VERY happy with it.   It probably won't be all about the money spent, whatever that turns out to be.   It certainly won't be about not being able to drive it.   It will be about owning the most original first generation Hemi Charger on the planet.   With the color, it is unrepeatable.  It's lightning in a bottle.  It's the top of the heap.
