Saw that before.....wasn't positive if it was your car or not....I couldn't see the Hemi emblem. It's getting pretty common unfortentley. I've seen on two cases in 1 week somebody on Cuda-Challenger get their car "for sale" on Ebay when they weren't selling it. I just saw a website last week where they were using Mr Angry in their rental car section. I sent Mike a heads up about it. They got rid of the picture though and replaced it with that black '68 sitting on the street.....

Funny blurb taken from their words on the auction......

Spotting Fraud: On a few occasions overseas scam artists have used our images and descriptions to attempt to pass our cars off as their own and dupe buyers into sending deposits. Usually these deals are too good to be true, and for good reason. Scammers will typically not be able to answer questions about the car, have a very low "buy it now" price and will ask for a deposit. Once you send the deposit they are never heard from again. If you spot one of our vehicles or any other vehicle for sale with suspicious terms DO NOT send the alleged seller money and please notify us immediately. We will contact eBay security about any fraud we see, whether for our cars or others.
I'd rather die than go to heaven.

wow,,,that car is rough,,,,,,,

sounds like he wishes his car looked as good as yours,,,guess it's flattering,,,,but a bit bothersome he would use your pic.....
I would email the guy,,,,and tell him to remove it,,,,or report him to ebay.....

Charger440RDN

This isn't the first time he has used that picture in this add either, this car has been on ebay for a few months now off and on. How much will it cost to bring THIS car back from the dead? I'm guessing at least $20-25K

Here is what he said when I asked him about the picture.

That photo is to only show what that car would have looked like from the factory. I think anyone with a shred of common sense can identify this. If you're not buying, then please find something better to do with your time.

Thanks,
Shawn

Or copyright the photo and tell him you get 10% commission on the sale price for helping him sell it. Actually after his A$$clown email demonstration above I'd just tell him to stick it and take the picture down.

Shit.....you guys are lucky. The parts that are available now a days is a God send. I did mine when none of this stuff was available. There was a big gulf between affordable and good! Now it's just the labor. That car would be a good car for a back half.....but as a creampuff it's days are way over....

He probably got it from my Car Domain profile....I'll think about it...I don't really see any harm and it's not worth the battle....

I concur

If he were using my time/hardwork/money to advertise something to make him money and sent a smartass email like that to me especially after having a paragraph making him look like a hypocrite I would definatly go after it.  If I emailed him and he apologised and offered to take it down and didn't have that paragraph I'd most likely let it slide.

MGBRingo

I guesss it never ends with him.  Here is his follow up e-mail to me.  I ahve said very little to him other than he is using someones picture.

He like you is probably some asshole who I've never met and lives out his fantasy of possibly owning one of these cars through ranting on forums with the select few who do actually own what you only dream about owning. You spread your hateful nonsense in order to feel some sense of purpose. I get it. You're not the only person I've met during my time who acts out such childish behavior. For every nay sayer you send me, I can show you someone who truly appreciates what I've done for them. Here is one undeniable fact, I publish thousands upon thousands of photos of cars every single month so that buyers can truly understand and know what they are purchasing. I do this because I have been in that position where I have purchased cars from scum bags who have the same attitude as yourself. There is a reason I publish the amount of information that I do so that morons like you can never come back and make stupid comments such as "snake oil salesman". I'd bet money that guy has never even spoken to me let alone purchased anything. Just stick to what you're clearly focused on and that is gossiping with the rest of the girls at the beauty salon. When you can actually pull your fat ass away from your monitor for more then two seconds and make a buck, then give me a call. Until then, stop wasting my time.

Thanks,
Shawn

OK...now I'm pissed....how does one contact Ebay about using false photos?

Here  is what I sent him via Ebay...

Hi,
I came across your auction from a friend. He recognized the car and thought I should have a look. Apparently you got a picture of my restored car mixed up with the pictures of that obvious basket case. I can understand the appreciation you may have for my vehicle, which was restored by me over a 10 year period, however I must request that you not associate a photo which I own, of a car which I own, with your auction. Please remove it ASAP.

Hemidoug

OK...so he sent me this....

Doug,

While I appreciate you contacting me, I would request that you
give me a call so that we can better validate this. Your friend has been
emailing very disruptive and obnoxious emails so I'm not certain as to who
I am dealing with here. This wouldnt be the first time that I have dealt
with forum geeks who have too much time on their hands. Like I said, you
are welcome to call me any time and I will gladly discuss this with you and
if in fact you are the person who owns this car then I have no problems
with removing the photo. I would also like to add that I would do this out
of common courtesy. The photo was found online and is not copyrighted and
would fall under "public domain". I thought the photo complimented this
year and color scheme very nicely which was my reason for using it. Again
though, I would appreciate a call and we can discuss it
further.

Thanks,
Shawn

So I sent him this....

Thanks for your considerate response. I'd be willing to call, however I don't see how that would satisfy the validity of my claim. Maybe some youtube links would be a better to validate my claim. I can understand your desire to illustrate the color scheme and I agree it is one of the sharpest ones, however I must request that you find another photo of another car. Thank you for your understanding.

Here is what he wrote back...

Yea Doug, after I sent that email I went ahead and looked up your username. Your unwillingness to call is a bit troubling but none the less, I can see that it is your car. I will try and login through eBay to change it but again, I am only doing this out of common courtesy. I would appreciate it if you could tell whoever your friend is to stop contacting me. I get that he is bored and feels the need to play hall monitor but he needs to do that on his own time and keep me out of that loop. Like I stated, your photos are not copyrighted and they would essentially fall under public domain seeing as they are published all over the net. Beautiful car either way and it looks as if you did an excellent job.

Thanks,
Shawn

So I guess I'll just keep an eye on it....just don't hassel the guy for a while...if he doesn't honor my request we'll turn the dogs of war on him... :D

BROCK

Just curious:  What validity, if any, is there to the "public domain" comment?

I admit, I collect pictures - gigs n gigs worth.  But, not to repost or publish.

i would never do what the seller did, either.  Glad he respected your wishes!
