Whats the best way to clean up a gas spill?

Accidentally spilled a couple gallons of gas on my concrete floor. Covered it with garage floor cleanup stuff (like kitty litter).
Let it set overnight. Cleaned it up the next morning. Then went over the whole area with some industrial cleaner.
Floor still has a big stain on it, and there are still fumes.

Anyone have any advice?

Is there a product that will leach the gas out of the concrete, or totally dissolve the gas?

try crushing the "kitty litter" into the stain by stomping it in and let it set overnite.

I've heard good things about this, but haven't tried it myself.

muriatic acid does a good job too.  handle with care , most pool suppliers have it .

if you use the kitty litter be sure and put it in a container away from the garage and car. it will ignight in a closed pail

 always clean up oil with laqure thinner , wipe the oil up with a shop rag , then pour thinner on the stain , & rub hard with a clean rag

never had a  big gas spillage though , but  normaly  wipe it with a rag & just let it evaporate ,

I've used lacquer thinner to clean up inside the garage sometimes too but a cheap way I do after a spill is to sop up what I can with a rag to keep from further spread then lay newspapers or cardboard over the area and change out a couple times.  It seems to draw up the oil etc. real dry. Works for fluid leaks/drips under the car also.  May only leave a light stain sometimes but it just blends in with the rest of them  .   Some of the acids if not used right will damage the concrete.  Outside I spray a little greased lightning and pressure wash it.

I cant believe that we've been using gasoline for over 100 years, and no one has come up with a solvant that will clean it up - lol.

As mentioned I usually wipe it up with rags and the rest evaporates. On oil spills I wipe up most of it, then spray the area with "Break Clean" and wipe it again.

I've had pretty good results with Break Clean. I try to keep a can on hand at all times.

16 or so years ago I worked at a gas station and we used a material that was basically cat litter. It was unscented and gray. One night a RV came in and something happened during fueling where his tank shot out most of the 20 gallons pumped in all over the ground. A cleanup team came in and used a truck filled with that litter like material to clean it up. There was a 5 gallon pail we swept the residual amount up with and a employee threw his lit cigarette into it! Nothing happened, but it was very stupid nonetheless.

I used to use thinner/reducer up inside the engine room of lattice boom cranes.  Exhaust leaks would leave soot on the white walls.  It'd get kind of stinky but in the middle of winter when it's raining & cold out I'd make a job out of it.

I carry a small can of it and use it on my white letters @ shows.

I know the Brake Clean method works too.  Also the little carnivorous bees get real aggressive around autumn time & won't leave you alone when eating.  A shot of BC used to do the job on them.
