It's probably safe to say that most of us are very aware of the need to degree camshafts but I'm just sitting here wondering how many of you have ever actually had to move one because of a manufacturing issue?
On a related note, how many of you move a cam from straight up purposely for your own reasons?

Challenger340

I degree everything
and
I've had to move plenty when Degree'ing due to Manufacturing issues, probably "4 to 1", T/Chain & Gears problems vrs Camshaft.

Watch out for alot of Wizzy "offshore", and cheaper "onshore" T/Chain & Gearsets !

NEVER just line up the Dots on those, and assume ANYTHING !
Only wimps wear Bowties !

So timing chains are a definite "get what you pay for" item.  Best to pay for things like, what, a Cloyes double roller?

YEP ! Afraid so !

I like the Cloyes upper end stuff, especially the Hex-adjust series.
Like I said, I always Degree EVERYTHING, and it makes that "slight move", (even when just compensating for Valvetrain Deflection), MUCH EASIER !

Worst I've seen is an "Engine Parts One", Dbl Roller T/Chain & Gearset, Dbl. Roller, 3 Keyway.
It didn't matter "where" you installed it, Dots straight up, Dot over 1 tooth either direction, and on ANY Crank Keyway !
The CLOSEST it would get, was 3 1/2 RETARDED Degrees OUT !

NEVER ASSUME !
Only wimps wear Bowties !

Ghoste

Do they make the hex adjust for single bolt cams?

I degree everything. I helped a buddy dial in his poor performing engine....it was real lazy off idle. No wonder ; the ICL was retarded 16*  :P Moved the timing chain over 1 tooth and advanced it 4* on the lower gear and the centerline moved from 122 to 106 with the MP 484 cam. Made a big difference !  :2thumbs:

Just out of curiousity Ron, was the issue the cam or the timing set?

GPULLER

Advanced my MP 484 cam 4 deg, made a huge difference.  Was a turd before the advance.

The timing set was off one tooth (14*) so that's not good. When the mark was stamped on the upper gear somebody made a boo-boo !  :icon_smile_blackeye:
