Title sums up the question.  I read something about it recently and I just wondered if anyone here can shed more light on the rumor?

I even dug up a 1975 newsletter thought you mightfind some of this stuff interesting from back in the day of 1975 .Where it mentions Robert Goulet had recieved a daytona. That was prepared by the Alexander brothers in Detroit michigan .And before it was delivered to him.The nose was leaded in.And special paint accented the car.Another celeb Mort Sahl Bob hope had one for promotional purposes.Raquel Welch wanted a daytona .But ended up with a Cuda convertible. Then a line down George Barris had a prototype daytona that was candy red.The car was destroyed on purpose. One while two of the mechanics were tuning a hemi daytona. The car somehow dragged them across the prep garage and out the wall. And all daytonas and superbirds were wrecked on the new car prep line when they came in.Chrysler replaced most of the noses with new ones.No bondo was allowed. The problem was the cars were to long on the conveyor line.At the end of the line when they got to the end.The conveyor would disconnect. And the car would stop and the next car would rear end the first. As reported by a chrysler quality control manager

http://aerowarriors.com/pftjmc1.html   Story from aero warriors site on Joe Machado.Sean Machado C5X daytonas father

Joe has owned well over 100 Mopars since he acquired that '66 Charger, and has a great story about most every one. How about his red Daytona with the black vinyl roof? Rachel Welch ordered the car, had the dealer install a vinyl roof and then had second thoughts! Then there is his blue cloned Daytona that has quite a following since its appearance in a Spice Girls video. And speaking of videos, what about the cars he owns that have been used in television and the movies? The list goes on and on.

TiMopar

If it's of any interest, many years ago I wrote to Bob Hope, and received a very nice reply from his secretary to confirm that he had never owned a Daytona...

Raquel Welch supposedly ordered my Daytona.  Car took too long to get so she purchased a 70 Cuda.  Rumor has it.  No proof and like she would remember...  My car was shipped to Auto Precheck for some foo fooing before being shipped to a performance show in late 69.  So I have no idea..    The original owner who owned the car for 1 year had told us that is what the dealer told him when he purchased it new.  (salesmen)?

That daytona doesnt have a selling dealer on the daytona shiplist .It shows a performance car show.Another daytona of Jim Mc Cauleys shows it going to Kansas City Exhibition center

On that print out you have.  The first time my car shows up is for Yakima Dodge and says Canceled.  Then is says AUTO PRE-CHECK in Santa Fee Springs CA.  Then on this page shows Performance Show.   I have no idea what a column shift car would be doing at a performance show.  The original owner said he purchased this car new from Hollywood Dodge.  That is the same dealership that the Keith Black Hemi Daytona sold at..
