Decals: opinions

Looking for opinions on decals (racing, parts and logo's, not factory decals). :scratchchin:

Does it add or subtract from the look of a muscle car? What proportion and scale do you like and location? (side windows, under the hood, firewall). Or do you hate them all, except on a tool box?

Obviously it matters that one should use the parts and actually race on occasion.

I have seen nostalgic decals at a show and went looking for them on line. There are some cool looking ones out there, and period correct. I'm going to test the "look" under the hood. I don't know what I might think of it or if it would just be a distraction from the car. :shruggy:

Here's a few samples.

On the right car they look awesome...on the wrong car they look horrible, lol.
I can't tell you my requirments, I just know it when I see it.

I bought the Scat Pack Bees (ie 70) to throw up on the quarter windows and I have never been able to do it...and that is pushing 9-10 years?!

For me the location depends on the size and color of the decal.  Also keep in mind, for contingency purposes the stickers usually have to measure "x" dimension and be displayed prominently on both sides of the vehicle.  Underhood decals can be cool if done tastefully, which again I know it when I see it, lol.

All I can say is you the most critical part square on the head.  No part=no decal.  Regardless how cool someone thinks the Mallory decal may look, if you have an MP dizzy, MSD box, and Taylor wires what the heck are you doing with a Mallory decal?  It is even worse if you slappy Holley, Edelbrock, Summit, AutoMeter, K&N, Hooker, and Flowmmaster stuff all over your backglass and you have nothing to back it up...

Try it out and see what you think...If you like it that is all that matters.  One of the guys in the club has some old school event stickers under the decklid of his Dart.  It is like he opens up a history book everytime you look at it, pretty cool!  Close the trunk and no one knows they are there.

While certain decals can look good on cars, some do look gaudy..Unfortunatly, the Eddy, MSD, and a few others have been over done, because they can be had at the local auto parts store easily.. I believe the properly placed decal can make a really cool statement about the owner, or the car. Like my buddies "R/T" 1972 Dodge truck. Yes, it was never offered, but it does look "Cool" in it's own right. I personally like the "Scat Pack" decals and the Mr. Norm Declas on the quarter windows just like it was back in the day, but the over the top decals being installed all across the rear windows of cars today aren't my thing at all...I have a club affiliation decal on Christine, as well as a few on the Dart quarter windows. Most new kids today wouldn't even know it was Christine until they see the club decal....

Thanks for the input guys. Retro and done right would seem to be the only winning formula. I'll do some tests and see what looks good. Maybe my Hemi Road Runner will just remain "naked".  :D

Here are some original ones put on back when the car was new -  and still on there on my Hemi-X.

I am leaving them on there.  :2thumbs:

Excellent, that is a great look. I have to face the reality that I and my cars live in the past, so why not celebrate the good times with the classic decals. Thanks, max.

Anybody else running retro decals?

My car has a pair of tacky looking Playboy bunny decals in that engine turned finsih that was popular back in the 60's.  I leave them on because of how long they must have been on there now but... :P

I have a Mr. Angry INC sticker on the back window of my Duster. Not vintage but it's cool :2thumbs:

I have engine related stickers on the underside of my '69 Super Bee's hood (sorry, no photo). I like the look, and it seems that folks at cruise-ins and shows like the effect as well.

I think the stickers that you posted would look cool in the 1/4 windows :Twocents:
