I have an 01 dakota with a 4.7 it has 135,000 miles i pulled into a conveniant store today and my truck idled for about 5 min until i came back out. I reved it up a bit and noticed a cloud of blue smoke, it was burning some oil. now it only does this if it idles for a while it doesnt burn oil while driving that i or my frineds can tell and the oil level stays consistent. my guess is its either piston rings or valve guides showing some wear. i lean more toward valve guides. What do you guys think ?? im just looking for opinions as to which you think it would be.

Well, with that many miles I guess it stands to reason that it could be the rings or guides. I think it's usually the rings when it puffs blue after idling for a while.

It could be variety of things, from plugged drain holes or fuel pressure. Check out these links and see what others encountered.

I've gotten some good help from those folks on my 94 Dakota and 03 Durango. Athough I still can't figure out the security system BS on the Durango yet. :brickwall:
